I have a 335i Coupe 2007, with Chrome Window Trim...
I want to remove the Chrome window trim and get it powder coated Black Matte. The powder coating I got under control, the part that is killing me is HOW TO REMOVE the window trim. I called BMW and they charge $210 to remove EACH side... Any ideas on what to do here? |

Isn't the trim aluminum making it powdercoat eligible?
Regardless, it's damn near impossible to remove the trim without damaging it which is why most people vinyl or paint the trim while it remains on the car. |

haha. Yep, all the trim is plastic bro. I removed all my trim and only damaged the passenger side rear window trim. Bought a new one for like $30. Then I got the trim sprayed jet black for $150 from my painter. $180 and I have shadowline.. To do it correctly, you need to remove both door panels, and the mirrors. That will help you access the front trim under the mirror. The door trims just pull straight up. The tricky part is the rear window trims, where it meets the really big upper window trim part. The key here is to push that lower window trim out towards the front of the car with the door open. I might make a short video of it and up it on youtube so people understand.

OEM trim shouldn't be vinyl covered. Where did you order from? Sounds like you got ripped off.

Also, that shadowline trim vinyl is tough. I bought some from a vendor on here and I found it next to impossible to get it totally perfect on the big trim piece. It was 4-5" wide too. I think that shadowline.com is only like 3". People are much better off taking the time and removing the trim, then getting it painted. Trust me, just as good as oem trim for a fraction of the price.

it's easy to remove the trim
I've done it a few times, and the only thing that's likely to break are the clips (if you remove it correctly) I removed mine to apply the vinyl (twice) then removed it a 3rd time to have it painted And you don't have to remove door panels to do this |

That isn't shadow line trim. Thats just cheap vinyl. If you dont know how to apply vinyl, it will look like crap (like yours did). If you do know how to vinyl parts, its still a bit of a challenge from what I hear. Shadow line trim is OEM and black. |

There are plenty of people on here that have had tint shops put the vinyl wrap on and had no problems. I bought mine pre cut from a member on here from his ebay account. I'm getting a tint shop to do mine next week....guess I'll see if I'm inserting my foot in mouth after...
