e90 335d "Efficient Dynamics"

What is up with this...? Was this a promotional car used by a dealership or what?

Just a sticker. Normal 335d used for promotion.

Where "normal" equals "dealer stock/demo" unit. It's a Sport model, though, so definitely a nic set-up, and Bluewater is a very nice colour. By VIN, that's one of the first 335d's into the country, so it's been a demo for a while, but still very low mileage on it. Good deal too, so long as they start a customer's 4/50,000 warranty on delivery and not rob them a year of coverage by saying it was "on road" mack last March/April (09).

42890 is too much for that car, btw...just sayin. I'm almost positive the dealerships didn't even pay for those specific cars.

Really? If I didn't have my car, I'd be down across the border to pick this bad boy up...with the dllar on par, 42k for a loaded D with 3k on it isn't bad (if, as noted earlier, you get the full 4/50,000) with it. I knew there was a gap in US-Cdn pricing, but that car (well, a new '10) would be $59-60 list in Canada.

It's an 09, which makes it 2 years old. Consider the eco credit and what's on there, and that car stickered new for not more than that....that's why I'm thinking it's overpriced.

It's nice, but I wouldn't take it for more than 38ish.

Check out that price. Get used to it the diesel's are going to hold value like you have never seen before. My bet is in five years my car will sell used for close the new retail price in 2015.

Houston, I love you, but some of your posts are pretty ignorant. :P

1 dealer's price on a car they didn't buy does not draw the line for resale.

Rarity notwithstanding, there are several other factors involved in how well the resale value with be for our d's. It's way too soon to see how that's going to be reflected.

Check out used values of VW Jetta's Tdi's. They have remained close to retail value for first four years. During the high gas prices in 08 four year old cars sold for above the retail price payed, that's just a fact. A very low mile MB of 20 years is worth more than it sold for in 1985. While American's are just starting to get a handle on diesels the used market is going to be something your not used to. They don't go down in value anywhere near gas models, I might not be off in saying that diesel car owners are a different breed almost cult like. If the 335d is canceled in the US market hold on to your hat...

Jetta TDI's don't start at $44k (pre credit). You're still talking different price points, and hence, apples to oranges.

Again, there are a lot of things in play here that don't coincide to what you're talking about. The eco credit alone puts a crimp in things.

Ron1n, I mentally took eco-credit and delivery credit off of the 42k, wo I'd be looking for the same 37-38 you were thinking about...if I were the dealer, I wouldn't be advertising a price with the credits already in...it might reduce my flexibility to make more profit if someone came along and really wanted the car...

cheers

A m-sport 335d will be my next car.

If I can get my hands on an m1 for under 55, that might change the above decision.

I just cant refuse 35 mpg and all that passing power.

Scott, bang on! With all the credits I got, I love having a 335-class vehicle for the price of a well-equipped 328i (that doesn't have the large eco-credit), and you're right, that puts us forever ahead in the "when will the diesel 'premium' pay off in the long run?" business case...point is, our business case was made the second we drove our discounted D's off the lot. In the end, I was about 8k below a similarly equipped Cdn-spec 335i. D FTW!

Definitely too much for the car. It seems to be a demo as well. My 09 335d was a demo (same type of stickers) but with only 500mis and extended 5k/6mth warranty and for an out the door price of under $40k, it was hard to turn down

I ordered my 09 in October 2008, I didn't get it until May 09. The dealers got a bunch of stripped down 09 335d demo cars in late 08. So if it is an US 09 335d it is not likely that it is two years old yes since the earliest models came over here in late 08, maybe a year and a half if it was one of those early demo models.

I should have said, it makes it 3 MY's old..that was my mistake. It doesn't matter how old the car is physically, it matters how many MY's old it is.

What both of you are forgetting is that it doesn't matter what YOU feel....fact is, the cars SOLD for at LEAST $4500 less than sticker, right out of the shoots. That impacts resale value, no matter how you look at it.

Justify it all you want, but the d does NOT follow conventional pricing and retail methods. It's not your typical BMW, it wasn't sold at a price typical to a BMW, and that will affect it's resale.

Now, I hope for all our sakes, it's not a dramatic loss, but the numbers won't lie, nor will the auctions.

I've been in the car business in one way or another for a long, long time (let's call it 25 years). I *own* one of these cars (yes, own, I didn't lease), so it's not in my best interest to provide misinformation on what kind of asset it is financially, but it certainly seems like I'm the one being the most clear headed about it.

Never, ever argue the d's resale value as a reason for purchase. You'll look a fool.

Per the VIN tag in the last photo, it was built 03/09, and is now two MY's old. At 37 to 38 out the door with the credits, and maybe another 1 k off for being 'older', that stillwouldn't be a bad deal...it's a nice setup!

Which is why that's why I said that's probably the most I'd pay for it. :P

Lots of variables to take into account with these cars.

I don't understand, so a car made 3/10 is one MY old now? I could see that if there were a bunch of 2011 335ds are driving around the US right now. I haven't seen any yet, are they even in dealer showrooms?
