The N52 Performance Gains Curse
http://www.europeancarweb.com/tech/e...yno/index.html
I saw this article way back when and misplaced the link all this time. i think its a great example of how the stock car is already factory optimized. (not saying there isnt some room for improvement. i wouldn't have the parts that i have on my car right now if i didn't see some improvement) just thought this would help people understand the real gains and costs behind it since a lot of i understand this is the 330 and the majority of people have the 328 on here, which in theory means there is room for everyone to grow a little (if you consider the 330 being the bench mark) open for discussion |

^ ya sorry bro. i know you just installed that system. ive heard that in real life test situations even the BMW Performance exhaust looses power.
i wonder if they got rid of the res. if that would help at all. And ya SS is the highest quality stuff on the market so im not sure what happened there either. |

Good page, thanks for sharing.
As far as the loss of power for exhaust, well, it doesn't show to be that much anyway. This is a case where the mod should be justified by the sound/feeling improvement over the (negligible) hp loss. |

I figured this would be the case. Good read though! Counter point: The factory exhaust system is extremely heavy, I saved about 40 lbs with my set up. So... I'm not sure. |

ya i have no idea. i honestly dont think it matters if you loos HP and get a great sounding system i think thats all that maters. i have a hard time believing after this that the BMW system will produce gains. it probably will keep is the same as stock probably just less stuffing in the muffler. |

the loss in backpressure creates a more free flowing exhaust with gains mostly being seen in high horsepower cars...but still if the sound can justify it it will obviously help with other mods

I believe the time companies put into making their products < should at least
have an idea why that part is better from factory... maybe a little more indepth studies of such can produce better performance ? not the " bigger is better theory " . + 1 for supporting mods may help . good post with the link'd article ... |

this is the exact article I had referred to a few topics ago about exhaust. no one believed me, but I had stated in an article I found but lost that the supersprint lost tq in the low end.
however, I agree. for a good sounding tone...ill sacrifice a few tq. I am gonna woop a ricer's ass anyways. and will never be able to beat a 335... so what the big deal? on that note, what can our cars be compared to racing/HP and tq wise? as in 335 kind of competes with the audi s4 and so on... talking stock here. not with mods on either. just curious to see if anyone has any good racing stories, not so much factory specs.

when i had my 335 for 3 years, (2007 - 2010) everytime i drove on the streets i would drive with confidence and anybody who wanted to go, i would go with confidence. (please i dont want to hear any haters saying dont race on the streets) now with my 328 im not really sure if i want to race anybody anymore, not saying its slow but it aint no 335, specially with my jb3 and other mods i was up there with some high end cars. it sucks having to think twice about racing a c300 mercedes but other than that i love my 328 6mt! much fun!

that article is old.
i'm sure 330/325/328 that are broken in run alittle better. check out IVANX 330. dyno'd with muffler delete + Gruppe M intake. and my 328i base run is with: BMW peformance + Gruppe M intake then another run with LET Tune. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=271912 i've seen gains on all performance mods add'd to my NA.
