Got rear ended in columbia md, need shop advice

Hey all,

So i bought a BMW 335i about a week ago and just got rear ended after having my car washed and detailed

I am considering sending it to Mile One Collision (Tischer BMW shop) but i would like to know if anyone has had good/bad experiences with other shops in the area and if i should consider going elsewhere.

Thanks.

Don't do Tischer. They sat on both of my cars for 2 weeks before even looking at it. Then they took another week to examine. Just a repaint of my P bumper took 3.5 weeks, and it cracked within 6 months!!! Beyond warranty of course.

EDIT: one of the old guys from Mile One now works in Silver Spring at Burnt Mills. Quoted me a great price to do my entire front clip. Says he will start on a Wednesday and be done by the next Monday for pick up.

Thanks for the replies guys. I still have not decided where to take my car. The other insurance has accepted 100% liability and gave me two options

Door #1: they appraise and fix everything and give me an enterprise loaner
Door #2: I tell them which shop will do the fix and they will stop by and appraise the damage there and write me a check.

#2 might be better in the end if i knew where to take the car, but i got so many things going on i may just go with the easy choice and go with #1.

Does any know anything about this place? http://www.columbiaautocollision.com/index.php

Its rated 5 stars.

Has anyone ever filed a diminished value claim? Its possible in MD from what i am aware but i have no idea how to do that with GEICO and the two options they gave me.

I did my e90 and my wife's accord and they both came out great !!!

They actually are not afraid to fight with insurance companies for better parts to fix

it the right way. They are the best in NOVA.

Go to Hannigan's auto body in Silver Springs, MD. They do great work! I have used them twice with complete satisfaction. They are top-rated in Consumer's Checkbook.

I would not do option #1. There is a good chance that they will not use "new" OEM parts. They will attempt to put on cheap non-oem parts or "refurbished" BMW parts. Becareful ! ask around and go to a shop that will protect your interest. That is why I recommend P & J Body and Paint in Bel Air !

I took it to Columbia Auto Collision. Talk to Eddy there. The car is actually still there because i am waiting for my exhaust parts to be replaced. I cant 100% say they did a great job because they are obviously still not done. So far though they have been OK to deal with. They rarely return my phone calls, but it has not been a problem because its easy for me to stop by there and talk to Eddy the owner in person.

They promised to do some free paint touch up for me too, but they have not gotten to it yet.

They painted the bumper for me already and it looks good, but i have not seen it on the car because they dont want to damage it while installing the exhaust.

I will follow up when they are done to give you guys my feedback.

My mom got t-boned in her X3 a few months ago and she had it fixed at the dealership (make that fucker pay!)

It came out FLAWLESS and she needed 2 doors and a rocker panel replaced

I think she got it done at the body shop at Fairfax BMW (don't quote me though)

The thing with taking the car to a dealership is, they dont do the actual work. They send the car to their affiliated body shop, which in some cases might not be good. I thought of taking my car to Tischer, but they would just send it to Mile One Collision or something and i read it had bad reviews. So i took my chances with another shop. So far so good.

I did not that they dont return my phone calls, but this is because i have very high expectations. If i dont get a phone call within 4 hours, i just show up there on my lunch break and figure out whats going on. Plus i find it easier to talk with Eddy in person. He is very friendly and offers lots of advice.

The reason the car is taking soo long is not the fault of the shop too, they do their work very quickly. The wait is 99% due to the adjuster taking his sweet time to show up and approve the supplemental assessments. Plus he got "sick" and that added about 1 week to the time. I am not thrilled with GEICO's handling of it. Makes me wonder if i should have just gone with my own insurance and let them reimburse me for the deductible later.

also try Straight Line Auto Body in Elkridge. I met some of the owners at one of our meets and they came highly recommended (although I haven't used them).

i have used BMW of FFX body shop. Always been pleased w/ their work. They do their work right there, and i don't think they subcontract out. Plus, BMW of FFX service is right across the street and they can order the parts right there.

I also hear Elite Autohaus is good in MD. I think they have two locations, one in Jesup and the other in Silver Spring

I've also used Ravensworth Auto Body in Springfield, VA just of Braddock Road. My dad is friends with the owner so i get treated well there.

I got rear ended just a couple months ago in Columbia (on MD-175) and took it to:

Russell Collision
1501 South Caton Avenue
Baltimore, MD 21227
(410) 525-1000

Needed the a new rear bumper and two new under body shields. They did an excellent job. Paint matches exactly, bumper is aligned properly.

I was told they were the only BMW certified body shop in the area.

Why not get the roof wrapped, that way you don't have to worry about resale due to painting and when you get bored, just take it off. Let me know if you are interested in getting it wrapped. If you want matte black, i might be able to extend great pricing due to some overstock on my side.

Where'd you end up going? I am about to order the mtech body kit from tischer and I'll need to get it painted and installed.

I took my car to columbia auto collision. They did a decent job, but I doubt I will go there again. Painting a brand new bumper is not that hard, no sanding required. Dot sweat it too much.
