How Do You Prevent Wheel Socket Marks?

I'm switching out my wheels and tires. When the BMW dealer did my rotation at the 1 year appointment they left marks inside the wheel lug socket. I'm assuming it was from the powered lug gun.

I don't want my new wheels to have this so how can I prevent this next time? Hand torque? Tape on adaper?

I'm thinking I may go to the local Porsche dealer for the install.

Any advice?

You can buy lug sockets with plastic/teflon coating on the outside - keep it in your trunk/glove compartment for when you visit the tire place.

Do you have a link for the socket?

Also, do you think I need an alignment when switching out wheels? Going from 18x8 all around to 19x8.5 and 19x19.5.

I don't have a link, but I've seen ads in Roundel mag (BMW CCA club magazine) and in Road & Track. Also look at Bavarian Autosport at www.bavauto.com - I think they may have what you're looking for.

I would not think you would need an alignment going to different size wheels unless their offset is radically different or if you are also adding lowering springs.
