Tire Question
So i'm in quite the predicament. Right now I'm driving a stock 328i with bald tires. I have been patiently waiting to buy new rims and tires, which has taken longer than I thought since I'm fresh outta college with no full time job. I live in Washington State and it's approaching winter.
Should I: A) Buy new tires for the winter? B) Hold off until Spring where I can buy Rims/Tires. It's going to rain..a LOT. It didn't snow very much at all last year so that's what I'm hoping for. But basically i'm wondering if the bald tires will suffice with the traction control. Soo uhh.. Thanks! |

traction control can't defy physics. What's more, if you get down to the cords which is very possible, you could be looking at a very dangerous situation.
As I'm sure you know, decisions are about managing risk: which is better, pay the money for tires now, or pay the insurance deductible (and associated depreciation) from an accident, not to mention a ticket if you're at fault. Personally, I would hold off on rims for a lot longer than spring. Get the tires, and wait till your job situation stabilizes before worrying about rims.

Like said above, traction control isn't going to help you when your sliding in the rain. Just all four tires are going to slide.
Id probably hit the credit card if I was broke and get the tires before I had to pay an insurance deductable. Some stores will let you open an account with them too if you need to. |

I'm just north of Seattle a ways. Rumor is its suppose to be a rather harsh winter (for Seattle), sort of like 2 yrs ago. I would get a new set of tires. Will make a huge difference in ride and safety.

I'd check the local classifieds for somebody ditching some use run flats that came stock with the car. Usually you can get them new or used for pretty cheap. If not, I'd recommend a good set of all seasons at the least. Even if its just to hold you over.
