Do you leave on or remove those wheel lock things?

Came with the car. But I'm not sure they really do anything except
make it a hastle to change the wheels. What do you think?

Same here. I couldn't believe my car didn't come with them. My $25k VW GTI came with wheel locks, for God's sake.

You leave them on and you leave the key in the trunk. I don't really get how it makes it any more difficult to change a wheel.

It adds around 15 seconds to the wheel-change process, and around 10 seconds to the wheel-theft process.

Just leave your car dirty and curb-rash your wheels and you'll have no problems...

I'm also annoyed that an alarm is an option as well. I wonder how many people don't get the alarm. Should be standard, imo.

Wheel locks are really not a huge benefit and like other people have said, it is really not that hard to remove the wheel locks without the key. Here's what a quick google search yielded.

In most cases alarms are a waste of money and time. I live in Chicago and people don't even look up when a car alarm goes off. It's annoying as hell, but literally no one stops or does anything other than make a face. And there's a blinking red light in the rear view mirror so thieves think there is an alarm even if there isn't. I'm glad there's no alarm. The things go off all the time by themselves.

you can always run 4 sets of wheel locks... that will certainly slow them down.

I had wheel locks on my BBS wheels in the '80s. The one time I had a flat, I couldn't get enough torque to get the lug off with the 'key' and had to have the car towed anyway.

No more wheel locks for me. YMMV

If I remember correctly, all the alarm options are present minus the beeping and noise (meaning you can't just unlock the car, you can't just start it either, etc)

Good luck hammering a socket onto the McGard hardened locks I use and expect the lock lug to deform and take on the shape of the socket...

I lost the key for a set of my locks one time - there was nothing I could do to remove the lock nut including BFH hammers and chisels. I prolly could have got it off eventually by damaging the wheel, but what wheel thief wants to sell wheels FUBAR? I had to wait till replacement key arrived.

In the end, there are no security measures that will hamper a professional that wants your car or your wheels.

Good thing is most car/wheel theives are of the smash & grab/non professional type and anything that slows them down, or makes them go on to the next car in line instead of yours due to the hassle is a good thing

Other then the fact that most new wheel locks sets have an integrated washer on them that spins, so unless you can get that spinning washer off first, good luck getting them off without the key.

If you were a thief looking to steal wheels, you had (2) cars lined up, all things else being equal, one had wheel locks, one did not - which wheels are you gonna steal?

But that's false logic. I would imagine most thieves look for the wheels, find them and then steal them; regardless of wheel locks.

No blinking led anymore. Recent change. Need alarm to make it blink now.
