Driving the Alps - My 335is European Delivery Journal with Photoshoot and HD Video
Featured on E90POST HOMEPAGE.
This past September, I took delivery of my 335is at the BMW Welt in Munich via the European Delivery program. The goal was simple: an Ultimate driving experience and vacation. 1000 miles of twisty and windy driving nirvana, the scenic Alps across Germany, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland, all spread out over 10 days of pure Bliss. This is the Photo/Video Journal of that experience. Enjoy! Feel free to share it So my trip began in Munich. Immediately after landing and checking in to the hotel, I went directly to Oktoberfest and with some friends. In my opinion, the best way to a ED is to combine it with Oktoberfest. Two wins at once. Next day was the day I've been waiting for weeks: Day of delivery! Check-in at the BMW Welt. After check-in, went down to the briefing room. They have some spiffy touchscreen table tops where it displays and show off the features of your car. There's also a quick car simulator. The the big moment, the actual Delivery! After doing two victory laps inside the Welt and exiting, gave it to the valet up front, as I had yet to do the BMW factory tour in a short while. This was a Monday and unfortunately the BMW Museum was closed, oh well, guess another time. For delivery customers there is a very nice Lounge area that you can chill, grab some food and some drinks. Out of Munich I headed straight to Fussen/Schwangau to checkout the Neuschwanstein castle and the area. After Fussen, decided to head over to Mittenwald where I proceeded to just chill and relax the next day and prepare my self for several days of non-stop Alpine mountain pass driving. The surrounding area was quite picturesque. Now the real action start, full of pure driving bliss. Three awesome mountain passes back to back... Timmelsjoch, Passo Pordoi and the Stelvio pass. Looking back, this was a bit too much, but it was quite an experience. Specially driving down the south part of Stelvio pass at night (advice: don't do it unless you're REALLY up for it since there's not a soul in sight and it's pitch black). Came across these Orchards by the side of road while roaming around Italy, seemed like a good photo opportunity. The next driving episode was Bernina pass and Fluela pass. Both were a lot more scenic than I though, was quite a joy to drive them. The next driving segment involved San Bernadino pass, St, Gotthard pass, and Furka pass. The first two took a lot longer since I didn't expect how spaghetti the roads were, but it was just amazing. Not many photos since I was busy driving and some parts it was a little wet, but you can catch a glimpse of them on the video. The following days I decided to take it easy and chill mainly because the weather took a turn. Some more photos from Switzerland. After some more roaming around, my adventure finally came to an end again in Munich, dropping the car off for re-delivery... For the techies Equipment: Canon 7D, Canon 450D, Canon 17-55mm 2.8IS lens, Canon 70-200mm 2.8IS lens, Sigma 8-16mm lens, Gripper 3025 suction cup mount Photo workflow: RawTherapee, Qtpfsgui, ImgeMagick, Gimp Vieo Workflow: FFmpeg, Mencoder, Blender VSE Link to earlier preview post Enjoy! Thanks for sharing that. I love the Alps and plan to return to them for a month long trip, weaving through them with one of my Z cars, when I retire.

Awesome!
I know alot of people downplay others that post about their delivery and that EVERYONE says that's what they are gonna do as well.. but I sincerely enjoy reading about each person's experience and to hear just how much fun they had going about it. Glad you got an awesome N54, an awesome 335i, and I hope you enjoy pushing her to the limit! |

Beautiful pics and even better (is that possible?) video!
BTW, who's bright idea was it to build a mountain-side track w/hair-pin curves?! Thank you for sharing your experience. One of these days..... |

That video was mesmerizing. I love it. If you don't mind I'd like to use it as a screen saver for my plasma tv in my living room. I could watch that everyday.
