Wrapped my window trim with matte black vinyl

Hey all...

Not too long ago, I wrapped my window trim with some inexpensive matte black vinyl that I got here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=260613456408

All I did was cut the roll into two 7.5' pieces, and taped it to my car over the windows with standard painter's tape. I took a marker and traced an outline of the trim leaving about an inch or two above and below the trim to be cut away later. I cut away the excess from the sheet using scissors leaving just my new 'template.'

I applied the vinyl about 2" at a time, careful not to leave any air bubbles. Once the vinyl was in place, I just cut away the excess using a razor blade (I left about 1/4 to 1/8" above and below to tuck under). From there I just used a grocery store key chain credit card to tuck the rest under the trim. Sorry if this doesn't paint a clear picture for you...I'm going to help a couple fellow 335i owners do their trim soon, so I plan to take pics and video along the way. I'll also make sure there's better lighting.

Anyway, here are some pictures of the end result. Honestly, if I can do this, any of you can! You just have to be slightly smarter than the vinyl

Thanks everyone, I'm pretty happy with it. You're probably right about the graphics vinyl. You have to understand that I went into this project with zero experience with vinyl. It has actually been a number of weeks now (numerous car washes, hot temps, cold temps, etc.). So far it's holding up great.

In fact, the day I did the trim, there were some noticeable imperfections (wrinkles, a few bubbles). After several days of sitting out in the sun while I was at work, the imperfections just sort of disappeared. It now has a nice smooth look to it. Based on peoples' reactions, if you haven't had personal experience working with vinyl, there's no way to tell that the trim has had any work done. It was time and money well spent, IMO!

Was the vinyl a self adhesive? Or did you have to use a spray on adhesive?

I must say you did a fantastic job. And by the sounds if it, its holding up really well. Im looking into doing this for my e90 but still looking into the right vinyl and time to do it.

let us know if anything peels fades etc.

I only did what you see in the pictures

It was self adhesive. There's a layer on the back that you peel away as you go. I didn't use any heating, just my fingers

If it's fading, it's happening so gradually that I don't notice. If I have to do it over once or twice a year, it's not a big deal to me anyway. Good luck with yours!

Thanks man! I'd gladly do it. Your car is awesome and I think that's the best color available for the E90. I had a loaner in that color, and I loved it. Do you have the M3 rep front bumper? Your wheels look great too.

Why BMW doesn't make black window trim standard is beyond me. I think it looks better on just about every paint color.
