SOS Call System Malfunction - No Audio (Radio/CD)
My 335i sedan's iDrive has been acting up lately. A couple of days ago, I got an "SOS Call System Malfunction" on my nav screen when I started the car as well as in the dashboard (Diagonal Line across a phone). Brought my car to the dealer and had them check it out, but couldn't find the source of the problem. So i scheduled an appointment which won't be for another couple days. Has anyone encountered this problem or anything similar?
Heres some other conditions that might help: 1. No audio from FM or CD, doesnt play cd anyways, but a bit of audio sometimes pops up and then gone. Random times when audio works fine along with voice commands. 2. iDrive freezes at times and reboots. 3. In the iDrive Settings --> BMW Assist, 'Enable Services' is unhighlighted so I can't enable it. 4. BMW Assist displays 'Mobile Phone not installed, please call 1800xxxxxxx for Roadside Assistance' 4. SOS Button does not work, No LED Flashes when pressed. Also called the BMW Assist center to see if they can reset a signal or something but said they couldn't help me with that. Have tried to Reset the Software [by pressing CD EJECT, DVD EJECT, and MUTE simultaneously] but no change. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Took delivery just about a 1 1/2 months ago. You have a fault in the cars MOST system. The MOST system is a fiber optic network that connects all of the components you described. It works on a loop topology so if one component fails or there is a break in the fiber, none of the other components will function. You'll most likely need BMW to trace the problem unless you've added 3rd party components to your audio system.

i had the same warning popping up on my way to work this morning....i was talking over the fone via bluetooth on my way...and my bluetooth got disconnected for a few secs before that happened tho (not the 1st time bluetooth got disconnected in the middle of a conversation)...the bluetooth connection was fine after the malfunction warning showed up....
i'm wondering if this has anything to do w/ my cell fone being low batt...yet the warning never showed up during low batt...i haven't tested my CD/FM/AM after.... any feedbacks about this is appreciated

I think my previous coupe had the same problem the day I was driving to turn it to the dealer. Not sure if and how they fixed it.

I don't have iDrive, so I don't know if that matters, but when I did my V1 hardwire through the overhead console, I got the "SOS" with a line through it symbol on my dash. That was because I disconnected the connectors in the overhead, which connect to the button. So I think it lost power.
To get it back, I had to run "setup" again on the BMW Assist. I did that from the radio. Afterwards, it worked fine. Maybe you just need to run the "setup" again. Don't know if that helps you at all.

He knows I mean business with my car, and plus I have my lawyer on speed dial. A few years back when i had the 330 ZHP and I had ran over something and broken some senor that was 12.95 but they wanted 550 bucks to fix it. I walked in and just started yelling at the service manager in front of all the other guests. From that day forward they bow down to me and take care of me right away. Ohh and i never paid for the sensor they fixed it for free.

This happens to me every once in a while. A simple 3 finger salute (aka Ctrl-Alt-Delete, aka 2 eject buttons + volume knob for 6-9 seconds) reboots iDrive back to normal. If you take it in to the shop they're either going to re-install Windows Millenium... err, I mean BMW's fine, bug free OS or they'll replace your TCU. I've had my TCU replaced twice and software updated countless times. By the way, has anyone had the SA try to tell you your BT paired phone caused the failure??

I don't have I-drive but had the same problem after an alarm install at dealer.
For lack of a better term all the connections were not 'daisy chained' correctly and the dealer had to check all connections. It was weird because I had no audio but the sos calling worked and had audio.

I have the same issue. Been going after for almost 2 months. Checked the fuses and had someome that know about coding check the moduels and still have no answer. Only answer at this point has been get all the modules replaced ( radio, mulf, amp) or change the radio and amo to an aftermarket.

I found this post after taking the panel out under the drivers side of the dash. There is a standoff on the left side of the panel. It doesn't look like it does anything but I forgot to plug the connector back into it and got the sos failure and no sound. Plugged it back in this morning and everything is back to normal.

I just got this same issue yesterday on my 08 e92 well out of warranty lol...theres a tiny panel thst popped out under the drivers side pretty much above where your left leg sits...no idea what its for, so i shoved it back in and now my radio will not work and its driving me nuts...when i start i see the sos error then my idrive freezes up and i cant move or use it...did i do something when i shoved that tiny panel back in? I was thinking of unscrewing the whole panel and taking a look if anything is disconnected...did the op or anyone find a fix for this? I rather not bring to bmw n have them bang me over the head to fix this but its hard to drive without a radio or music |

There is a way to disable the SOS portion so that error goes away, but that won't fix your INOP radio. |
