Help my gas tank door wont close.

So after getting gas last night I closed the gas tank like normal went home and my girlfriend was like "hey didn't close your gas tank door idiot." so I went to close it but it won't close. Any help? I was thinking about bring it to the dealership but I don't know if this is covered with my extended warranty or not.

Call the dealership and see if it is covered...

Does the door pin just keep popping out or does it click in then out when pushed?

Open the trunk lid. Expose the battery compartment on the right-hand side under the toolkit. Look for a lime-green colored plastic wire coming from the direction of the gas lid. Pull it. Try again.

Would unlocking the doors and then closing the gas tank door work? If you have the setting to lock doors after starting to drive might've activated the fuel door lock. I wonder if the lock mechanism is in place and is preventing you from closing the gas tank door. Though I'm not sure whether it would prevent it from closing if the doors are locked, I haven't tried it myself.

This...If the doors are locked you can't close the door, IIRC.

The fuel latch lock is tied to the door locks. If your fuel latch is open and you lock your doors, the little locking pin will stick out and you will be unable to close the latch. From the sound of it, this is what happened. Try unlocking the doors, closing the latch, and then locking them again.

If that's not the problem, you may have an electrical glitch that's preventing the locking mechanism from engaging, which would cause your fuel latch to open while you're driving. Alternatively, a glitch might be causing the locking pin to remain stuck in the locked position, which would result in you being unable to close the latch at all.

if you look inside the gas cap, there is a small pin sticking out. you need to push in. just push that sucker in and close your gas cap.

This happened to me once. the pop up pin that open the door when you push it was all the way out and it didn't stay down keeping the door closed. you have to change this part and it will be covered under warranty. I had to wait for a few days since the dealer didn't have it in stock and had to be ordered in the mean time when I had to park my car i pushed the gas door and lock the car using the fob.there is a lock pin that will keep your gas door closed and locked.

So I went to the dealer and they told me it was not covered by my warranty so I had to pay 12.01 for the pushy pin thing that pops out when you open it. Took like 5 seconds to install to haha.
