Trading Down
Having given much thought and deliberated for bloody ages, i've decided to get rid of my 325d msport due to it costing loads per month, and a house move on top, plus extra nagging from her indoors.
Only had it 3 months, but have put just over 8k on it, one of the main reasons why i'm having to get rid, Syntner Cov will give me back 4k in cash to put towards another car, which if I hang on to the car will reduce to zero, and then go into negative equity, not a place i want to be. Anyway, because of the cost of the house move, I've gone for a 55 plate 320d SE, at 11.5k, it's only got 25k miles, but not where near as many toys as the current motor, which I will miss loads, plus I doubt it's a dynamic effiient model, so not sure of MPG, I currently get 45 ish out of 325. Anyone got one of these ? they any good, any things to look out for etc ? I'm gonna really miss my car, I get the new one on Tues, and I'm really not looking forward to driving way from it, with it looking at me as I go |

Did you not consider refinancing it to reduce the monthly payments??
Surely that would have been financially better than trading in?? Good luck anyway. |

My old 55 plate 320d SE used to average about 42-43 mpg. Not up to ED standards but not bad.
I get you on the downgrading, I went from a 325i convertible to a Mini Cooper D. I miss the trick roof, the 6-pot growl and the heated leather seats, but otherwise my Mini is great fun and really cheap to run - negligible tax, no servicing costs, cheap tyres, and nearly 60mpg. It is quite pleasant when less than £40 of diesel fills it up and then lasts about 400 miles!

i thought about a mini, and I've driven a cooper s and loved it, but I drive 120 miles a day, so wan something a bit more comfy, got to admit, the figures you state are attractive

I downgraded from my last car over a year ago, and I've regretted it every single day since
June next year the loan is paid off and I will throw a party when I can leave the hateful thing on a dealer forecourt and drive off in the E91 I want. However, my 50mpg Mundaneo is saving me nearly £200 a month in fuel bills over the V6 Signum I sold, and despite hating my car, my life is better as a result. Sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture. |

What were you paying a month and what age is the 325d M-Sport??
If it has £18k finance on it you could finance that for around £300 a month over 48 months with a balloon or £350 over 60 months. I would guess that they would only do the 6 year old 320d over 36 months, and because it is under £15k I bet the apr is higher, so you will probably be paying around £340 a month for that too?? |

paying 350 per month, with 9k baloon, put a grand in to the 320d, and the payments are now 190 per month, a little longer on the finance, but no balloon. with an annual milage of 30k per year, makes sense to not murder the 325 on miles, i will miss it though, might get the 320d chipped instead

That sounds like a worthwhile change then.
I have got 3 years left on my E Class estate, it is now 4.5 years old and at 90k miles, and I have been looking at replacements over the last month or two, but in all honesty nothing yet has grabbed me, we bought an F11 520d touring for the old man and been driving that a lot, but as nice as it is I'm not sure I prefer it over my Merc, looked at the new E Class E350cdi but although it feels slightly more modern it doesn't feel as special and as relaxed, and funnily enough out of all the cars I have tried the one that might make me swap is actually a 320d sport plus touring auto, back to 45-55mpg is tempting right now, more so than loads of power, but then think 'just keep the E320cdi and enjoy it'. It costs me peanuts each month so the 34mpg isn't all that bad. I bet you will like the 320d even more as it is costing you pocket money. Let us know your thoughts when you get it. |

well, did the deed today
first impression are not bad, and although it will take a while to get used to the difference I don't think it's going to be that bad pro's are much cheaper more comfy ride similar economy - so far anyway con's miss the sound the msport made no bluetooth - can i get it fitted ? poorer hifi - just seen anneka's thread - so perfect timing thin steering wheel - need to steal one from an msport poorer seats, msport fitted better but se not uncomfortable overall first impressions are pretty good - i don't hate the new car so its not all bad |
