I never had a problem with my synapse bov. You dont have to worry about it being open at idle. If it was leaking boost while the turbos were spooling then you would have a problem.

This is true with any bov (or diverter valve for that matter) ... being open at idle or vacuum doesn't matter since the car is map based ... as soon as you see any boost it should close right up

If it is opening under full boost then it doesn't have a strong enough spring in it, or whatever it uses to keep it shut at pressure

so if my BOV stays shut at idle, where is the air going? back to the turbos?

also, if you look at this video around 1:10 the bov stays open under load. I would think it would shut at this point.

^ and that is why i dont like Synapse...that and other reasons. Its an open path for dirt and debris into your engine/intake w no filter. Screw that.

I love my Tial, sounds great and works great. Solidly built piece.

different car but the sound of the BOV is easy to hear.

+1 tial is the best hands down..synapse just has a good marketing campaign..look what brand every major tuner or builder uses..that should answer the question

I have TiAL and love it. In my turbo experience, it is the best BOV I have ever owned.

I run the Tial as well. IMO the synapse is a marketing gimmick

so consensus is that we should be running the unpainted spring for the Tial correct?

I was experiencing compressor surge with my greddyRS, switched to TialQ still had surge, switched to synapse and no more surge on my e36. I'm a fan of the synapse BOV, great permormance IMO. I have the anti-stall kit on mine to keep from sucking in anything unwanted at idle.

If/when, I start modding the 135i, I'd either go Forge DV's or Synapse.

interesting, what turbo/compressor housing?

I had forge DV's on my n54 and they worked flawlessly. I could 100% tell the difference in boost transitions from the stock DV's and it helped hold boost better than the stockers.

My Synapse pre-load spring failed and was cut in two pieces. I'm now running my bov without pre-load spring. The spring damaged the piston but it was reusable as well

GT35R, T04S non-ported compressor housing, 1.06 A/R exhaust.

Granted if it was a ported housing, probably would not have experienced the surge, but just don't feel like spending another $250+ on that.

Thats probably due to the PROcede's superior bogfix during hard shifting. It simply doesn't release the boost during hard shifts, so thats why you don't hear anything...

If you want a really loud sound with a high quality solution, just buy a set of Forge's and disconnect the hoses going back to the intake.
The result will sound like this (my car):

and just to make sure this is clear to me, disconnecting the hoses that go back to the intake is totally safe right???? I'm a pretty firm believer (but I could be persuaded) that if something comes on the car stock there is a reason for it. And if I replace it I want to replace it with something that is as close to stock as possible.

While I do respect that notion, this is a T-MAP car and it does matter one bit whether you use a BOV or DVs. None.

What's so bad about HKS? Cause it sounds like a whistle? Isn't HKS a solid piece?

HKS is a good quality BOV but I personally don't like the high pitched squeel. I love the Synapse but I would get Tial otherwise...

So no reported compressor surge with the Tial using a proper spring? (Based on vacuum?)

I'm stuck on Tial vs Synapse for my 1M.....

Yes this would be safe but you would need to block off the recurculation ports on the stock intact tubes. Vacuum caps with hose clamps will be fine.
