When do you guys fill up?
This is another random question,
just wondering, do you guys wait until you are close to E? or do you fill up when you are like halfway down the tank? I fill up when I hit E because to me E is not Empty it means Enough hahaha |

Usually around 1/4, sometimes earlier in winter

does that mean the tank is fully empty? or does the reserve start running from 0km? i dont want to try, but was always curious. |

Anywhere between 1/4 and 1/2. I try to fill up around the 1/2 mark in case I have to go drive all over Toronto for meetings and I can't find time to gas up (or a Shell along the way).

I generally get gas once a week and I'm usually around 1/2 tank at that time.

Around 1/2 or 1/4, I usually don't want to go all the way to E since there may be some contaminants at the bottom of the tank.

Manual discourages 335i drivers from letting their tanks get below 1/4 tank due to HPFP issue that usually ensues. Something about gunk junk crapping out the HPFP when you get below that 1/4 tank level.
I always fill between 1/4 and 1/2 tank.

Very good question. I've always wondered the same. I don't want to try it though :P Does it damage the engine in some wAy if it runs out of gas and the pistons are midway? I'm not an automotive engineer so maybe one could answer that. The lowest I've gone was 30km range when it was too cold! I've been running my cars to empty lately to find out the average range. Usually I keep it topped up whenever I get a chance.

Question though: Do any of you guys use fuel system cleaner? I usually run a bottle in spring and fall and will tend to run the tank to empty as per instruction, wondering if there are any disadvantages to running the tank dry like this. |
