Going over a sidewalk is more costly than head-on collision...

$4500 vs $5000.

Couldn't even enjoy my german-made Prior Design front that I paid $1400 for. Had it for less than a month.

At least my 162s are still fine. Those OEM wheels are solid as hell.

Stuck with Jeep Patriot for 2 more weeks. Once in a while, stuff like this is necessary. Makes you realize how wonderful your BMW is.

Assuming you hit the curb, how fast were you going and how drunk were you?

Yep, OEM 18" wheels are solid as hell. I also ran over a sidewalk curb on my right rear style 189 (a took a corner too sharp) and it was fine. Apparently some members with aftermarket replica wheels bend and crack their wheels going through tiny pot holes at 30mph only.

I cracked my 17" OEM wheels going into a side walk. Both driver's side wheels were cracked. OEM or after market are both prone to being cracked, but after market wheels are definitely not as solid. I was going 35 or so when I slammed into the side walk.

And cause everyone loves pics:

Let me tell you something about 162s, my friend:

I ran a red light, and got t-boned precisely in the back/rear right section of my car. I got rammed by a Ford Focus directly where my 162 was, and it didn't even crack.... that's right, a car ran into my wheel and it bent my axel..but did not damage my wheel! 3-series are tanks, and I'm so thankful no one got hurt in my accident. To live and learn from mistakes.

I like the warm atmosphere here. thanks for the kind words.

I didn't take pictures. I have to say I wasn't in the mood to take pictures.
The whole front suspension needs replacing. They didn't want to do any welding job or anything, so they decided to replace the whole bottom instead to maintain the ride quality. Works for me.

I was going 45mph, took a turn without braking. And no, I wasn't drunk. I called the police myself to make sure I pay for the public damage I've done. Luckily the city paid for it.

The reason why these OEMs are so tough is because they are heavier than a load of iron.

30 lbs. for 17" OEM? Yep!

I personally don't mind the weight. Most of us aren't professional racers that race for a living. We don't drive on the autobahn either where we could actually tell the difference between 24lb wheels vs. 30lb wheels.

Most of us drive our cars on crappy roads with potholes here and there.

Weight is more than just about going quickly. Unsprung weight is just killer, even at a mere 5-6 pounds per corner.

But OEMs have to be heavy since durability and manufacturing costs are the most important areas to a carmaker.
