A Hypothetical Question..
Ok Guys,
I wanted to ask this question.. Hypothetically, if i were to ever sell/trade my 325i and purchase a stock 330 with just sports and auto, would i lose out on a LOT of money? Im just curious as to what the difference would be.. ( i know if i ever did it, my parents would kill me, but lol.. i just wanted to know for myself)..thanks

Uh oh...but then you'd be converting yourself from manual to steptronic! All of the apparent manual votaries on this board will be fuming when they hear about a potential, fallen soldier!

If you did it before the car is 18-24 months old you will take a big depreciation hit. How much that really affects you depends on what you may owe on your current car, etc. None of that is our business so it's hard to say.

Oh, mea culpa. I always thought you had a manual. Or maybe it was that you know how to drive a manual. Regardless, Puck is here to say that you should get a manual - the manual gang is already flooding in! Take cover!

I would say you would be out about 5-7k on your current car. But, depending on how you paid for the 325, and how much you still have left to pay (if financed) the gap to what you would have to pay for the 330 would be....forget it...i just went cross-eyed...

You would lose alot unfortunately.
They say a car loses 20% of it's value as it drives off the showroom floor. Don't fool yourself into thinking you need a 330i. Yes, it's a nice thought- but I drive a 320d, less power than your 325i and it has enough. Be happy :-) Love your car. Wait till the face lift (in 3.5-4 yaars time) and upgrade to a 330 then? |

First of all, you never trade-in your car if you're seeking the highest value for your car. You have to go through the hassles of selling it privately.
The amount you will be down will ultimately be determined by how much you're able to sell your current 325. The difference between the selling price and the price you paid for depicts the difference on top of any changes with the interest/financing you might receive with the 330 purchase, if they are any different from your current 325. You also have to count in any interest thus far paid by you to your lender (if you financed), as they also contribute to your accretion of losses. You didn't list your specs for your 325 - so it's not clear how much more you'd have to put down in order to get the 330 with the options you specified. Go to Kelly Blue Book or something to determine an approximate value of your 325. |

oooOOOooo tough call.
You will likely lose out a good 5K-8K. I can't remember which options you got on the 325. The biggest difference would be on the financing gap of the 2 vehicles. I guess it depends on how much you really want the 330. But, if I were you....I might hold out for the 335..since you are going to take a hit on the depreciation of the 325 anyways. Plus, will give you a chance to not only gather some $$$, but to think about how much the 325 bothers you...(angels...yeah I know.) Oh yeah...gives you time to sell the car privately to maximize your return instead of trading in at the dealer. Let us know!

Since your 325i is loaded, I assume the only thing you are missing is a few hp, correct? Wait a few months and see what kind of hp increases Dinan comes out with. You might be able to get 25-30hp for $1000-$1500. Remeber that the 325i's 3.0 may be highly tunable.

Save your money and get the M3, hottie in a M3 does it get better then that?
I raced this very cute girl in a AW M3 the other day. I took her off the line so bad, but she got me in the end. I was impressed that was drivig a stick and not an SMG.

Yes i purchased my car in late June (it was still very new). My car isnt loaded.. i just have sports and auto (not even xenons).. And i think i paid alot too, but at the time, i didnt find this forum so i thought it was a normal price. Thus, why i want to sell/trade now that they are more in production it could be cheaper.
