Help with Navigation Basics

I am new to iDrive and, after searching the owners manual for my 2011 328i coupe, I have not found explanations for the following items:

1. What settings are required to reveal "Arrow display" and under what circumstances does it appear?

2. "Exit ramp view" is checked in my settings for my Split Screen map. When does it appear? Are there other settings required?

3. I have seen color traffic info overlaid onto freeways shown on the greyscale map when guidance is used. The manual states that green is one of the colors used. Green never appears on my screen, even if traffic is flowing smoothly. Is something wrong?

4. Another traffic question: Is traffic information ever shown on the map when just driving normally, without a destination selected?

5. Final traffic question: Is the greyscale map the only one that displays traffic info?

1. With the iDrive controller, go right, enter, then you can choose a list of contents to display on the right side of the screen. Arrow display is the first thing on the list.

2. It shows when you are approaching an exit ramping and appears on the right side of the screen (instead of Arrow display). The right side display will go back to whatever it was before (i.e. Arrow display) after you've taken the exit ramp.

3-5. I don't really use the traffic feature.

1. Arrow Display is grayed out on my list.
2. Will it show when approaching an exit ramp if I have entertainment details selected or some other non-map info as my right side screen?

1. You have to be navigating somewhere.
2. It should show on the right side of the screen regardless of what the current selection is.
