Problem with chains, they don't fit on many of the wheel options. There isn't the space to run them. Certainly warnings from BMW about their use.
Some have used snow socks for limited use, and getting out of a fix. But like chains, are limited in where you can use them. HighlandPete |

Not on a BMW but had them for the golf when we went to the Alps. I had 3ft of snow on my drive a few winters ago and for a laugh tried to get the golf out even though it was smack in the middle of it. It acted like a snowplough and got out the drive and up our street easily.
As Pete says there are limitations where you can use them. UK roads are one, they are not meant to be allowed. Decent snow tyres will keep you moving in most snowy weather but aren't anywhere near as good as chains from my experience. Plus fitting snow chains isn't fun especialy if you get caught out and its a blizzard and dark and you can barely feel your hands. Also need to watch your arches and wheel face to be sure they are well fitted and aren't damaging anything. |

I have a set for an E91 335d on std 18" wheels/tyres and they work fine. Used twice in the Alps and in the winter in UK to get out of my road.
Once you know what you are doing they are easy to fit and no issues with flailing unlike some rental cars with rental chains I have used. |

I have a set of Thule CG-9 102 for my E92 with the 19" M225 alloys, bought them as I drove to the Alps earlier in the year, needed to use them there & also in the UK last Christmas in the snow, work well & were about £100 new.

I've got the Michelin EasyGrip - and they are the easiest things to fit, as effective as chains but easier and lighter to put on and certainly better than snow socks.
http://www.easy-grip.eu/ Certainly recommend them and at @£100 per pair good value. |

Got them from Ebay - I think it was Performance Centre at Motormania, they have their own website, but as I had credit in my Ebay account it was just as easy to buy them off ebay - no price difference.
