Black Sapphire vs Jet Black

The Jet black is more shiner than the Sapphire isn't it? So why do people pay $500 more for Sapphire? I know a guy that did that he said he should have gotten the jet.

I have jet black--nothing is going to beat it when it is clean and shined up. It will look deeper and more glossy--but it is also harder to keep looking good. It is the hardest to keep clean and you have to be careful or scratches and swirls can result very easily. If you like to clean and maintain the outside of a car--then get the JB, because you almost need to be a little OCD. If you want something that still looks nice, but isnt as hard to take care of, get the sapphire. But the JB looks sooooo nice clean...

Oh, and the sapphire will have a sort of sparkle to it....which some people like better than the flat, deep look of the JB.

The Sapphire Black Metallic looks almost a VERY dark grey when in bright sunlight. I have had one sinc November and I love it!

I have had jet before and it was no harder to keep clean than any dark color. People who complain of swirls probably did not maintain the finish properly with a regular waxing. I never liked my black to look gray. I call jet a "shine" and sapphire a "glow." I prefer a shine but to each his own.

i had a jet black e46 and it was awesome when clean.. not so awesome when not clean which was 95% of its existence.. you'll constantly have to wash it and be very very careful with the swirl marks and $hit. but when it's clean it's the greatest.

Not true - at least not true for me. The fact of the matter is that you basically get swirl marks every dang time you wash the vehicle even if you're EXTREMELY careful like I am. The only way to get rid of them is by using a clay bar and waxing. I think swirl marks are on every car - its just that jet black shows it way more than others.

I have owned both colors... I also know how to maintain both colors... Here is nice comaprison showing how nice both can look.

Jet Black

Jet Black definately showed swirls, scratches, and marring a lot easier than any color... I would do a full polish session every 3-4 months.

Black Saphire Metallic

A lot easer to maintain when compared to Jet black thanks to the metallicbut it still showed its dust and imperfections like any dark color would.

I've had 6 black cars including a 98 M3 in Cosmos black Metallic(which looks pretty much like Sapphire Black to me. ALL were hard to keep clean. As far as Sapphire vs Jet. I am really impressed with the way that the Sapphire just sparkles in the sun. Just about all cars can be had in black. Metallic black is special since it is not universally available. IMHO, from a distance they don't look that much different. But up close, there is a difference. Note: picture taken on a cloudy day

I was leaning towards Jet Black, but I was worried that it is such a difficult color to maintain. I still wanted black so I went for Black Sapphire.

I do like the look of JB though.

metallic is better because it tends to hide scratches better and has that sparkle in the sun

Joyriide,
This is the best comparison of the two colors I have seen. Thanks for the photos.
