335i adaptive headlights AND auto leveling don't work

Took my car to the dealer yesterday to get my Drivers Xenon light fixed (went out last week). Got the car back, and noticed at night that they no longer Auto level on startup, nor do they turn left and right. Made another appointment today to get it looked at. I get back to the dealer, and they tell me they can't find any issue with it. They recoded the car, and checked the FRM to test the lights. They were able to get the lights to move up down left and right, so something else is the issue.

No codes, no nothing...just headlights that no longer move, and now I've got moisture in the right side housing.. stupid dealer.

The only mods I've done related to headlights is replacing the Angel Eye bulb with an LED one, and a Daeos DRL harness to make the DRL's stay on 24x7. BMW is trying to tell me that that is the reason (they've been installed for over a year without issue) but they've advised remove it first.

I'm pissed as-is at my dealer, especially since they couldn't find the issue.

Does anyone have any idea what the issue could be? I've checked the fuses, wiring...everything looks good.

Did you have the headlight switch on auto? If you manually turn them on, I believe the auto level and turning features are disabled...

Sounds like your dealer is being reasonable by advising you to remove mods before they have another look

Mine was replaced due to an accident and they also do not turn and the new driver side light points down and to the left as far as it can go. Both lights look at my "feet" when on dim also.... Dealer told me you don't have to code them when you replace them and that you cannot adjust them manually. I didn't believe them but I left and did some research and you DO have to recode them when replacing them and they are easily adjusted manually. I have to take it back and set them straight. It still should be throwing codes though and mine is not. There is actually a tis i found online on the matter of coding them.

hope this helps

If you want any help from the dealer, start by removing your mods first. It makes it too easy for them to point at a non-OEM part as the root cause. Or find a good independent shop...

What did they replace? The D1S bulb? Do you know if they replaced the door on the back? Over time, the seal will form to the housings lip and if you don't replace it exactly as it came off, it will allow condensation into the housing.

This may have blown your ahl module which controls the stepper motors for adaptive lighting.

Auto leveling is a mandated feature on xenons and is active whether or not the switch is in the auto position.

Are you getting any errors on your dash for adaptive? Normally when the ahl module is faulty, a code will come up and trip an adaptive error on your dash. It looks like a headlamp with a line through it I think.
