Flywheel Options
I need a new clutch and probably going with ACT street, but not very familiar with my flywheel options. ACT does NOT make a matching lightweight flywheel. Are there aftermarket stock replacement lwfw that would match to ACT?
I’m not opposed to reusing my duel mass, but not many shops can resurface. And most state it can’t be done. I think Spec would work… any others? Anyone mis-match clutch and lwfw manufacturers? |

I think it would be a gamble to match an aftermarket flywheel to a different brand of aftermarket clutch. I would save up for a new OEM flywheel...

I personally find any flywheel that causes clutch chatter to be unacceptable in this car so I plan to try resurfacing OEM when the time comes. If there are any aftermarket flywheels that are compatable with ACT and do not cause any chatter I would be interested, especially since they are likely less expensive than a new OEM one.
Please let us know what you find and good luck! |

Ok Spec's site looks like they supply 2 different kits... 1 for lwfw and 1 for stock.
http://www.specclutch.com/cars/BMW/335/2008/Single its a little confusing though, cause they have the lwfw option for both kits. Looks like Spec flywheel would be a gamble... I'm not sure of other aftermarket options. And I don't want to stray from the ACT clutch; I haven't read anything bad yet except for engagement. For resurfacing, flywheel just sits on a rotating chuck with a stationary grinding bit... I guess the special tool needed for DM is something that holds the 2 halves? How would you check the smoothness of a flywheel to determine if its good or not? |

i wonder if there's any chance of bmw making an 8 bolt 1m spec flywheel as a performance upgrade?
surely ER is going to make a flywheel with their twin-disk setup anyway(one can only hope) which is the route i will be going. just hoping my clutch holds out long enough after i install meth and a few more bolt-ons in January for it to come out. |

Ok, I'm guessing the BMW DM can't be resurfaced cause you can't resurface the step also and may not retain clamping force.
Is the n54 externally balanced... I don't see any indexing on the flywheel, so doesn't matter how it's mounted? oh man, now the Spec is kinda looking better |

Just found out that there is a LuK flywheel for 335i, part number seems to be DMF112. This is usually identical to the OEM one but much cheaper (at least in Europe).

I have plenty of info. However without vendor status I suspect the post will be deleted. A "8-bolt" version is a piece of cake. Is your OE flywheel still off the car? |

It will be going on my car, once I get hold of a new HPF Stage 2 Feramic clutch.
I managed to toast up my ACT Street clutch on the 1/4 mile. My mechanic was never a big fan of the OE dual mass flywheel, this was their solution for my 6-bolt 135i. |
