Seat belt extender doesnt work so well
Hey guys,
Any of you having problem with your passenger seat belt extender on E92? My extender sometimes does not extend... If so, how did your dealer fix it? I brought it in for twice, and I was told it is totally fine because they cannot find any code... ![]() ![]() Last edited by kelvin2010; 12-30-2011 at 04:15 PM.. |

Mine has a mind of it's own. Sometimes it grabs the seat belt and sometimes it doesn't. I view it more of a cool novelty than anything more. If you look at the extender part its actually pretty flimsy and prone to breakage. Mine has broke before but thankfully it was covered under warranty.

Mine doesn't extend, but when it extends, it grabs the seat belt everytime... The SA told me, you have to pull the seatbelt under the passenger seat all the way back, then the extender can grab the seat belt every time... |

Even though it's poor design and BMW instructs dealerships not to replace it, just ask you SA to replace it. Because if you wait until it's out of warranty, the part alone is over $350. I simply asked and they replaced the driver's side. The pass side broke right afterwards. You don't want to spend $350 for this BS. No reason to ponder why BMW had such a flimsy plastic arm--it wears out, just insist they replace, not "adjust" as there's nothing to adjust.

Of course, this issue is over 5 years old. If you really want to see what's going on, pull the mechanism out, it's like pulling an arm out of a socket. It's all plastic and it wears out. If it doesn't go back in, that's the pinch protection, which relies on a plastic knub to release. The more the knub is worn, the more the pinch protection activates even if the arm didn't hit anything on the way back. BMW has TSBs telling the dealership not to replace it, just to make sure the software is up to date.

Sure you can, I just asked the SA politely. I said it's been "fixed" 3 times, can you just replace the arm? He said of course. sometimes common sense has to prevail, software doesn't repair worn plastic. There's not going to be a code because the arm doesn't go in or come out. My mistake was not getting both sides fixed, I only got the driver's side replaced.

Lol, same thing I did, you can also just bend with your hand in the same manner you'd fold a piece of paper.. and if you don't want to iron it use a "flat iron"..
See Link http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=588596 if you want you can reply with your video to that post.. |

Since I was out of warranty I got so angry I yanked the passenger side right out, and then got a $348 surprise. I decided to put it back, and it's worked ever since. ![]() |

mine is weird. the driver's side works perfect 95% of all times, for passenger side, i'd say 60%. all my friends were initially surprised about the seat belt graber, they goes like"wow this is so amazing", and then they started to wonder "wait, why wont this thing grab the seatbelt for me"?

That is the exact problem with my passenger seatbelt. It happens because passengers use seatbelt all twisted (aka my wife). Interesting that my driver side works perfectly. Gonna try her flat iron first.
