Cobb question.
I've only read rave reviews from others on e90post about the Cobb. Has anyone heard any negative stories? I'm looking at making my first performance upgrade the Cobb AP. Of course, changing all the ECU config is a scary thing in any case, but I just haven't heard anything negative from anyone to make me feel concerned. My problem is a buddy of mine is just trying to look out for me and mentioned all the worst case scenarios about engines blowing etc...
Does Cobb offer any sort of engine warranty with their product, and/or do they give any complimentary Dyno or anything to verify the flash went as designed? ie checking fuel/air ratio, boost pressure, etc...? Ultimately, if I go with any tune, it will be a Cobb, but I'd rather get the two pennies from those that have had the experience and I know there's tons of ya'll here Thanks! |

engine warranty = no way.
back in the day when it first came out - they used to give us dyno's, you can log on the cobb itself, so you can verify that stuff yourself. talk to the cobb guys, im sure they would walk you through the process and help you load it and talk you through everything at their shop if you wanted. i remember rob (4drassassin) went up there to "try" one, they put one on his car and he hasn't taken it off since lol!

COBB is the best/safest tune out there IMO. Plus them being local is a HUGE advantage. They spent over 2 years developing the tune before bringing it to market to make sure that everything would go smoothly. Best decision I've ever made regarding tuning my car was going with COBB. As far as verifying the flash went as designed, I know of no better way to confirm this than to install it, start the car, and GO!!! You will be floored at the difference from stock to Stage 1.

lol Michael!
Yeah this is more of the stuff I've always heard. Thanks for that, but I'm just fishing to see if anyone has heard anything bad at all. I don't think I'll get it (the bad)... but wanted to see nonetheless. I figured no engine warranty, twas just something someone said and I pretty much laughed in his face saying there's no way lol. I'm 100% positive that I'll end up getting one anyway, but figure asking up front is a better idea instead of slapping myself later because I didn't. Anyone else got good or bad to add? Thanks! |

Haha, we certainly try to be. Especially for COBB as every 335i/135i/535i owner we see roll out of here after we upload it for them, has one hell of a laugh after he/she first gets on the gas, it really is a great item.

Once you install it, you'll wonder why you didn't do it before!

I was an early adopter of the COBB. I read too many bad things about the way the JB3 (at the time now JB4) worked with the car to manage boost. I also hated getting into the ECU every time I had to go to the dealership. I have spoken with Rob with Cobb in Austin on several occasions and dealt with the guys at the shop here in Plano. From the onset, it was clear these guys were professionals and knew exactly what they were doing. I have had one problem installing my cobb tune, out of probably 15 installs/uninstalls. My battery was going on my car and it lacked the power to run the DME while it was flashing. I called Rob and he helped my flash the car back to stock.
Cobb has the stock DME software for all variations of cars they support. If you F up an install, they can actually email you the file, which you can install on your AP and then upload to the car. Boom- back to stock. Then I had my battery replaced under warranty and when I got the car back uploaded the Cobb tune and map I wanted and away I went. It is a near bulletproof design and the engine mangement software is safe to run and transforms the car. Everyone that runs the Cobb will agree with me that you will come back on this page after installling and say, "I should have done this a long time ago!!!" Get it!

I read a lot about Cobb prior to getting one and haven't heard or experienced any issues what so ever -- except for speeding tickets and lower mpg

good feedback - I already know that I'm missing a ton by not having one. Just having everyone praise Cobb is making me feel better about my decision. Keep coming people!

FWIW...I haven't heard anything "bad" about Cobb. Seems like maybe when i lived in UT, I spoke with them a couple times about my WRX.
I run JB4, with meth and n20...cobb would probably be my second choice. I was going to comment and say that being "safe" with a tune is almost not a concern...then I realized I just typed my meth+n20 set-up, so I guess my opinion is skewed But yes...you HAVE TO have a tune. |

Any mod friendly dealers in the DFW area? Almost out of warranty anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter much. But it's always nice to have someone that understands mods, so they don't throw the book at you when something breaks.
