e92 335 STIFF steering wheel

I test drove it yesterday and i noticed the steering wheel being really really stiff. Is that suppose to be good? because it was mad hard to even do a 90 degree turn. I'm suppose to be able to turn the steering wheel with 1 hand but with the 335 steering wheel I needed 2 hands because it is just so STIFF. Is there any way the steering wheel could be programmed to be less stiff?

I really didn't notice anything much stiffer coming from the stock MOMO on my Evo. But I then switched to the M-tech model which is a lot softer and better for my taste.

when travelling at 100 mph on a twisty parkyway, it makes steering a lot more precise and easy to control.

if precision and control sounds good to you, i guess so?

KevinZ:

Did you order your coupe with the sports package? Did you drive the exact optioned car before ordering?

Have you driven a 335 coupe for any real distance on rough pavement?

My e90 335 has a very firm turning effort on the steering wheel. I like it. Now when I drive my Dodge Durango, which has a very light steering effort, I swear I'm swerving all over the road! I very much prefer the steering effort on the BMW now.

The tires on my 335 are 225's up front, and the Duango has 275's.

So true. I hated at first, but now whenever I drive my sister's Camry or RX300. I t seems like I can't control the car at highway speed.

ohh yeah, last month, I drove a friend'sToyota van and the cop pulled me over thinking that I was drunk because I was all over the lane. This proves how loose it's compare to a BMW.

Part of the reason I boughgt the car is that th steering is not made for my grandmother !! The tightness and sportiness is perfect !!

What's with all the lame replies? That "stiff" steering would be due to low-assist power steering. Yes your car has power steering. It lends to the sporty handling dynamics BMWs are known for. In other words--it's normal. You want soft steering, drive a Toyota Camry then I'll be replying to your "I have no road-feel, what's wrong?" thread.

The Firmness of BMWs power steering became really apparent to me on Tuesday, I took a friends RX-8 for a spin and suddenly what had always felt like just right suddenly felt WAY over boosted... Was interesting.

Also of note, the clutch felt kinda weird and vague and the effort was higher than the 335 as well. But I was grooving on the "DOWN in IT" seating position. I kinda like it when door jambs come up to the shoulder...

Anyway, yeah BMW steering is pretty firm. I like it though.

+1, a lot of people like BMW because of the stiff steering. My wife actually likes this stiffness better than other Japanese car she test drove.

Seriously, if you want soft steering, go for a Toyota, Honda, or Niissan.

P.S. I actually thought this car should be a bit more stiffer to improve the handling on corners.
