Tinting In A Stupid State, Need Opinions

I have a 2007 328xi jet black. I want to tint but I live in a state that only allows tint on the back windows. Ive heard of someone that had tint in the front in this state, got into an accident, and was immediatly at fault because he "couldnt see due to illegal tint" So if I can't get it in front, any suggestions for how many percent i can go with back passenger/ rear? Thanks

I find it hard to believe someone can be found to be at fault in an accident solely due to tint on the front windows. Go with 35%. Sure, you may get a "fix-it" ticket, but those don't really mean anything.

I've never heard of being held liable in an accident but I do have tint in CA which doesn't allow front tint. Worst that has happened is I got a fix-it ticket. Had to take it off than put it back on after the police okay'd it.

i have my front windows tinted at 30% and have never had any problems. knock on wood. in cali most cops wont pull you over for front tints but will add it on if you get pulled over for something else.

whatever you do, don't make your car so blatantly illegal that you can be pulled over by any cop at any time with little to no reason.

no need to make yourself a ticket magnet, go as LIGHT as possible or don't tint them at all.

Maryland allows you to get a medical exemption. Last car had 5% on the back and 15% on the sides... 100% legal. I won't be going quite so dark this time, but close (FL sun for at least another 6 months)

I JUST got mine done, same situation (CA)

I did the Madico Ceramic 50% back 20% front and it looks nice. A neighbor did 20% all around on his black e46 and it looks REALLY nice. The 20% would be hard to see from a cops perspective and because it's lighter than the back they overlook unless they are out for you.
Most of the cops I have been pulled over (mostly CHP) are car guys and they don't hassle me about the no front plate and tinting (12 years on the M3 with no comments). My wife got dinged for no front plate on the Odyssey by a meter reader (Too F'ing lazy to walk to the back of the car for the plate)

Move to Arizona.

There is a 35% tint law, but it's NEVER enforced.. hot weather will do that. Also no front plate requirement.

However! It was 112f on my way home from work at 6pm tonight. This time of year I wish I was back in The OC with all the pretty people.

nope, NYS requires at least 70% light transmittance on the front windows.

factory tint in the glass blocks about 7%... which would mean u could use maybe 80% tint. which is pretty much clear.

50% tint only lets 50% of the light through, 35% tint 35% of the light through, the lower the number, the darker the tint. NYS has a high enough requirement that front tint is illegal, since no one makes any tint above 60% light transmittance.

they usually wont hassle you if it isnt too dark or they might give you a tint ticket instead of a moving violation. i got pulled over by NYPD Highway Patrol in my S60R (30% tint all around), i was doing about 35 over the limit when i got tagged. they wrote me for my two front windows, and sent me on my way, after telling me to slow down.

i think NJ checks window tint with their yearly inspections, i might be wrong though. if they do, it makes tint a little harder to get away with.

with a new car you dont have inspections in jersey for 4 years. if you get tints, just dont get em super dark...most people get away with it, and you're better off with a bimmer rather than a civic with coffee can muffler
