I'm disappointed with the Comfort Access system.

The principle is great, I only wished that mine worked as advertised. It seems that at least 50% of the time, I have to pull the door latch twice to get the door to open even if I go slow. When I touch the ribbed area to lock the door it sometimes takes 3-5 secs for the door to lock. The trunk is the worst. I grab the latch and most of the time nothing happens for at least 5 secs or more. I keep grabbing the latch, but to no avail. I guess I could just forget about the CA and just use the fob. Am I the only one with this issue?

Didn't the sales person told you, you have to pull the door latch twice.

I did not get the CA, but my sales person was kind enough to educate me on how the system works. Afterwards, I decided to use the money to get other options.

That's only when you're getting out of the vehicle...not getting in.

...may need to recharge the battery by riding with same in the ignition for a few. Retry it then. I had the same issues until I recharged it. Good luck.

Battery doesn't charge in the car with CA.

Try this, for the ribs, place your finger against it firmly for 1 second, if it doesn't lock in 1 second, there's something wrong with your car.

For the door, don't pull twice or once. Just wrap your hand around it and it should unlock in like 1/2 a second. If it doesn't, there's probably something wrong with the car.

I think the trunk you have to push the lever twice by design.
+1 .. no problems here if I do it correctly

I thought the comfort access fob was non-rechargeable?

Read the manual, and be patient, give the car the split second it needs to query your fob, and react accordingly.

It works 100% of the time if you just slow down 1/2 second. Seriously, or just get used to pulling the handle twice to open the door.

Initially I was a little "WHAT?" with the function of CA, then after using for a little while I have learned to just give the German electronics a split second to respond appropriately.

OR

You can just stay pissed off at what is really a great feature. Give it just that split second...

I do love CA (I'd find the 'insert fob then press Start' a little annoying), but I still wish it worked on the rear doors on the E90 as it does on the 5 and 7 series.

You don't even have to touch the car or the handle to unlock the doors. Just slide your hand in between the handle and the body of the car, and it should unlock. It seems to detect the moisture (?) or anything conductive. When washing the car, it will unlock or lock your door by simply spraying water on the handle (with the keyfob nearby of course).

Funny how sometimes if the car does not unlock, I take my hand out and put the other one by the handle.

You also have to hold the trunk button to make it work correctly. It is not just a push and trunk opens, its hold and then it will unlock.

FYI the CA keyfob does not charge it has a replacable battery.

I don't have any problems. Works great!

Make sure you are close enough to the car when attempting to open the door/trunk.

I've found with the trunk, it works best when you grab the trunk handle and actually squeeze it instead of just holding it. It should unlock it immediately.

I have the same exact problems as the OP maybe BMW should talk to MB to get it right cause my CL55 always worked perfect 100% no problems at first attempt.

if you have tinted windows, it could be the issue.

I would bring it in my trunk works perfectly. Maybe your not holding you hand there long enough? I put my hand there and then try to open the trunk and it works fine for me.

locking kind of sucks since your usually walking away from your door at the same time your closing it (which makes not walking away and standing by it in order to press the button suck)

but when i do stand there it locks right away

as for unlocking it usually unlocks when i put my hand on the handle before i can even pull, if it doesnt i just pull twice in quick succession and it works

as for the trunk, never had a problem at all

Read This Thread

From the M5board......

http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=99109

The best part about CA is having the key in your pocket all the time. No fumbling around, no scratches on the steering column or dash from dangling keys.

The bad part about CA is losing a key or misplacing it....(read the thread above and see where the key was).....

FYI, I hve RTFM, more than twice and reading the manual does not make the CA work any better. Putting my finger on the ribs is exactly what I am doing , unfotunately, my car does not react to that in 1 sec. More like 3-5 secs. Longer for the trunk.

My arms are not long enough to allow me to be too far away from the car when I open the door or trunk.
