Anyone here gone from an e9x to an x5 and found it too big
Hello,
I currently have an e91 wagon and with my growing up kids, am finding it a bit small. We are thinking of a x5 with 7 seats. Thing is that I like the size of the wagon. I actually like driving my mini cooper more than my 335 convertible around the city. I was thinking that parking is always harder with the x5 and going in and out of tight lanes will be harder etc. Now where I live isn't as small as some of the places I have seen in the UK, but it is a bit compact. So what do you think? |

The prob with large wider motors in urban/towns, IMO, is not so much driving the width, it's parking and other people, say in supermarket spaces.
Most, don't seem to bother too much about how they fill a parking space. Park in a restricted width and you risk a dent in the doors. I find, in can be a right sxd, parking! That's really the main reason why my next will be an F30 and not a F10 or XF. A scratch, let-alone a dent, is serious stuff! it's OK if you have a 2nd run-about for shopping, but I hav'nt! ![]() OMG the F30 is wider than an E90! |

Thanks
Those tight spaces and dings just go together. Ironically, the week after we bought our new e91 some kid in a 4wd put a ding on our door. My wife was really annoyed, but we had it easily fixed. So I suppose I need to just budget a few hundred dollars a year extra on ding repairs. |

We went from E91 to an X5, at the start it felt really wide in traffic lanes but you quickly get used to it. Yes parking is tighter but as others said the X5 is easy to park. Because its so big you kinda get away with parking "badly" across two spaces.
If you don't actually need the seven seats an X3 is a good option as its a bit smaller with still plenty of space inside. |

Bxmhole! ![]() I suggest you re-learn your drivng skills and I just hope you get a well deserved ticket every time, as it is an offence in most public parking plots. |

Ain't anything wrong with my driving skills pal, I said it was done on purpose. If its in a quiet corner away from the shop doors where all the pricks fight to get as close to the shops as possible then there is no harm.
Also don't get tickets in shop free carparks do you!! |

Went from an X5 to my e90 and the X5 was great to park thanks to the height (better vision up top) and front parking sensors which my e90 doesn't have (as well as rear but obviously have them on the e90 too) which meant that I didn't need to be able to see down low.
It was more to difficult to find a big enough space but once I found one it was easy to actually park it. As for driving, driving a 4x4 around town was easy also as I didn't worry about driving up kerbs in tight streets to pass, cars make way for you, speed bumps just didn't exist for me and it felt great being so high up. I don't drive around in my e90 thinking 'this is easier in this smaller car', in fact I often miss the things I could do in the X5 thanks to its big tyres and high ride height like driving straight off a kerb instead finding the drop kerb etc. |
