Windshield washer overflow

I took my car in today due to the fact that I had windshield washer fluid coming out the passenger side near the wheel well. Every time they filled it up it would leak out at the above location and also when I would get home it would leak.

I had the vanos replaced yesterday so I had to take it back in today for this.

They said that this was the windshield washer overflow and it is normal. Does that sound right.

Thanks

It's a known problem. Either the reservoir or the hosing/seals break or crack and you get fluid in the right front wheel well ( or all over the ground under that spot)

Ok then why did the mechanic tell me that it was just a normal function of the overflow reservoir.

It's not normal. Maybe he didn't want to pull off the tire, wheel well lining and look at the tank. The tank is right behind your front passenger wheel. Maybe it has a crack or something in it.

Had exactly the same issue with my '11 335i coupe today. But a check of the reservoir showed it to be holding most of it's fluid. We all know that washer fluid will spill out if you "top off" the tank, buy this is not that. I think that this extreme hot weather and the tank's proximity to the oil cooler is causing an expansion of the fluid. And this overflow is what we're seeing. Just a guess.

Ok thanks so much. They had the car for 2 hours so I would have hoped that they would have done something.

Thanks.

Mine did it in march and it wasnt that hot. I thought i just overfilled it, but i didnt fill it all the way. I guess i need to get it checked out at the dealer. Is it covered under CPO? No wonder why my empty light for fluid comes pretty often and i dont use my fluid that much. At first i thought it was the anal german designers making sure you never run out of fluid.
