I'm goint to take the Wife's out (C220 coupe) and see what I can hear. I don't remember anything out of the ordinary but maybe when I'm listening out for it it may become apparent. Saying that she spends over 2 hours a day in hers and has'nt grumbled as yet!
Good luck with yours and glad to see someone fighting their corner.

As Chris says, it's a slog. I rejected a MKIV Golf a few years ago that was on contract hire with VW Finance. The dealer appeared to be on my side though which certainly helped. It was a three year agreement and they eventually gave me a brand new one about 18 months in. That was after I'd said no to an 18 month old replacement. VWs argument being that I'd had 18 months use out of the duff one. I countered by saying that may be the case but faults developed within weeks of me taking delivery.

At no point did I have to resort to legal advice or threats. I just dealt with VW via the dealer. The whole thing was initiated when I wrote a strongly worded letter to the head honcho of the dealer group.

Good luck Mark. I know how annoying it is when these issues aren't sorted.

Did you leave the vehicle with them? If you still have the vehicle, you have not formally rejected it.

As others have said, if the vehicle is on finance, then the rejection must be made with the finance company as they are the legal owner.

Just to give you an idea of the sort of noises we are talking about

Now this is the Dealer Principals own car (a C250 CDI) who swears that MB do not have a problem with rattles.

What do you think?

That is shit. I took the wife's out the other night and whilst there's the odd creak here and there as with any car there's definately nothing like in your video. It's like there's something bashing on the inside of the heating controls. So that's yours and the DP's with the same rattles? Shocking. In fact it reminds of when you land on the runway and they hit the brakes etc and all the overhead lockers shake!!
As Chrisbin said, ours must be faulty so I'll have to take it in and get them to create these noises-don't want to feel left out after all.

Nope

It's just the cheap plastic flexing and thus creaking as the car moves along.

If you just press any of the plastic around the heater controls etc you get pretty much the same effect (I will be sure to post a video of this thrilling event soon) even when the car is stationary.

Plus the C220 CDI Coupe loaner I had when mine was in the shop last time (FOR TWO WEEKS) when they were trying to fix the rattles.

Hi Mark

I was in the process of trading in my BMW 318D, to a AUC E350 CDI Coupe(11) had a comprehensive test drive and I must say that had a few squeeks coming from around the dash area, also a slight rattle from the drivers window ,the salesman wanted to show me the sound system whilst on the test drive, I said i was more interested in the sound from the plastics on the dash. DIDNT buy the car. Hope your problems are soon resolved.

PS After reading all your threads/posts I have kicked the move over to MB into touch

this is bad just in process of buying a new B-class but saying that having had one for a day the only time it rattled was when the road was pothole city.

Otherwise felt well put together. Currently considering a c63 on AUC for next car might have to rethink this

That would SERIOUSLY do my head in if I had to hear that everytime I drive the car.
Definitely not acceptable!

Sounds a bit like the noise I get from my M3 around the oddments try between the rear seats. It’s very temperature related.

My phase I (pre-facelift) C-class is silent (save for sodding great engine noise) - very well put together and zero undue noises/creaks/rattles.

It's not something I will put up with (having had my drivers seat replaced in my E92 for a creaking noise) so I would have had the car in if it were the case. Also worth considering, I've had my lower dash and centre console in bits for Di-Noc wrapping and reassembled and it still doesn't creak.

Perhaps the phase 2 (facelifted) cars look better (being based on the current E class) but perhaps the early cars were better screwed together...

That would drive me crackers. Much like the noises I get from the dash on my E91.

It's going back again btw. I think it's about the fifth time. Could be more.

Good luck Mark.

My last three BM's have had some kind of rattle. All trim related. My 135i had one just behind my right ear which turned out to be the seat belt pivot bracket. Drove me fooking nuts. Even the 58 plate Cayman had a rattle.

So the dealer principle has posted a video that he made of his own car and titled it "More rattles" and he swears that they don't have problems with rattles. I think he may be in for a bollocking for that one.

This is where the beauty of the internet comes into it's own. It gives people like you a platform to publicise your dissatisfaction in the product and the way you are being treated. Get as much publicity as you can for this. I'll pass it on to Z4-forum.

I wouldn't class myself as an OCD person and that rattle would be enough for me to reject the car if they couldn't fix it.

Even the sh!tbox fiat500 hire car I'm using rattles less than that!

Mark - that is horrendous and if they have attempted numerous times and cannot fix that, firstly I am amazed (surely with something so obvious and easy to replicate) that they cannot fix it and secondly, I totally understand you now rejecting the car. I can confirm that I rejected my XKR for a sound much less obvious than that (and more intermittent to much harder to replicate consistently)!

I have terrible OCD when it comes to rattles and cannot stand the slightest noise so I do feel your pain. It must be especially hard when Merc aren't helping and I wish you the best of luck and I sincerely hope you get what you want out of this.

Out of interest, have you escalated this to the Merc UK's boss (known as their 'President' IIRC)? I complained directly to him once about cracked discs that they wouldn't replace on my C63 and he authorised it...I know this is something on a much larger scale but it may be worth a go? (Saying that, I can't remember his name or contact details however I did get them from someone on MBClub so may be worth asking over there).

Noooo! New cars are (or should be) sufficiently well engineered to ensure no unwanted noises are present. I never accept anything other than blissful silence (although this is harder to get than it should be!)

That would drive me crazy, hope you get it sorted.

Probably me being completely paranoid but if that's a phone you're using to film it whilst driving then that may be illegal so be careful if you're going to be upsetting a big company like MB.
