Need help with DIY for gloss black grille
I want to paint my chrome kidney grilles gloss black, but doing so, I know that I would need to sand it down.
The question is do I need to primer it before I apply spray paint and clear coat? I have seen variations of DIY and not sure if I need to do the primer process. What brand of gloss black spray paint would you guys use and is it necessary to apply clear coat? Thanks!

I did the same a few weeks ago. Sanded down the chrome surrounds with 800grit sand paper. Samded the grilles as well. Primed with simoniz grey primer and then sprayed with simoniz tough black. It is chip resistant so will see how long it lasts!

You do need to sand them to take the "chrome" off and make it possible for the Gloss Paint to adhere to the old paint or plastic. No need to clear coat. It'll be shiny enough and with 4-5 thin coats there will be plenty of paint if you need to polish them at any time.

180-220 is fine. Dupli-color will work well.
