Post Exxon+Mobil= Exxon Mobil--> Now Lukeoil? & Mixing Question

originally wasn't exxon and mobil two seperate companies? then merged to exxon mobil and now lukeoil bought them out?

also is it safe to mix fuels? depending where i am in NJ i usually get either exxon or shell v power based on the location b/c its cheaper. Exxon near my dad's office is $3.03 while the shell on my way home before hitting thruway is $2.99 for vpower. so i am mixing but is that fine?

It is very very dangerous to mix fuels. It can lead to premature detonation.

I suggest you use a rubber tube to suck all the gas out of your tank and refill it with only one brand of gas.

No problem mixing gas (is this a serious question?), and ExxonMobil is still ExxonMobil. EM is battling Shell as the largest oil company in the world.

Do you realize what types of problems car manufacturers would have if you couldn't mix different brands of gasolines?

the reason i am asking is because i was thinking one was of "lesser" quality then the other. i thought that shell is one of the cleanest gases to use from the commerical of gunky buildup. so i was thinking to myself ok so if i mix exxon and shell what would happen to the gunk, safe to mix, etc.

If you're really worried, throw a bottle of Techron in the gas every so often.

Yes, Exxon and Mobil use to be two separate companies before they merged. (Ironically, they both use to be part of Standard Oil before the S.Ct. broke them up in 1911.) However Lukoil has neither bought ExxonMobil, nor merged with them. Where did you here that one? Lukoil is a Russian company, and trust me if there was any talk of Lukoil taking over ExxonMobil it would be blanketing the news right now.

Lukoil has purchased a lot of Mobil stations in the NY/NJ/PA makets. Perhaps that is what you are referring to? If so they just bought the stations and converted them to their own brand. They now have nothing to do with ExxonMobil. If you are going to these converted stations thinking you are putting Exxon gas in your tank, you are wrong. It's Lukoil gas.

All gasoline is about the same, each company only differenciate on their addictives they added at the final step on refining.

Valero also refines for ExxonMobil, Shell, BP...etc. Whichever pay Valero the $$$. I've seen in refinaries, there are tanks of different addictives ready to be added per different companies spec.

The only thing not to add is Diesel!!!
lol~

87 is about $3 a gallon in Vermont, and they don't pump it for you.

You Might Want To Consider That Shell Is A Top Tier Fuel And Is Recommended By Bmw. Exxon, Mobil, And The Others You Have Mentioned Are Not.

Here in NorCal, it's around $2.99 for Regular (87 octane) and $3.19 for Premium (91 octane).
