Why do I have black calipers?

So, I have a 2009 335i coupe, and all of the calipers are gloss black. However, in most of the pics I have seen on this forum the calipers are not painted. Is this something specific to the 335 or an option package, or did the previous owner paint them?

Probably painted by previous owner. Not available as option.

Thanks for the info. He did a great job then, as they look awesome. I was surprised that it wasn't stock, as the car was a lease.

I thought that the rotors were coated with something that prevents rust, as they look brand new as well.

Nope those things rust like a b*tch - the previous owner for your car def coated them with something for you. Lucky lol my hubs and calipers are covered in rust but I'm too lazy to have to yank my wheels off to do anything about it.

This is a pic of the rear rotor that was replaced by the BMW dealer about 10K miles ago, and has been through a winter in NJ. How can this not be coated with something by BMW?
