E90 Rear Fog light melted Socket housing
Hi there,
I have a 2008 E90 and I have a message one of the rear fog list are not working, BMW told me there is no power getting to the fog light and for $400 they can see what the problem is! GREAT! My local mechanic had a look and said the Socket housing is melted and would need to be replaced..... and that is something BMW would have to do as if needs programming...... Has anyone had this problem too? I was hoping I could order the part and DYI ? thoughts! Thanks! |

I would try to DIY. If you're not changing anything only replacing it doesn't make sense you'd need to do any reprogramming. Only time I've read about reprogramming when replacing is the battery but that makes sense.

You should be able to do this yourself. The sockets pop out easily (check your users manual).
I had a tail light out last week. I ended up replacing all my rear lights (bulbs are cheap!). For each bulb change, I pulled the whole socket assembly (all 4 of the), cleaned them, applied an electrical contact cleaner, inserted new bulbs, and then inserted the sockets again. In total, about 20 minutes of work. I am 95% confident that you could change the backs of the socket (where the bulbs go) without a re-program. |
