You must have your speed limiter alarm enabled or whatever it is called. The dings notify you when you exceeded you preset speed.

The only thing that comes to mine is when the clock is about to change to the next hour.

I've got the E92 w/iDrive (mistake now, but oh well), and there's an option to turn off hour notification. It beeps just like that at the turn of the hour.

Yeah, the tone for exceeding the preset speed limit is a single tone. I hear it a lot...

Thank you. I will look into that the next time I drive her. And why a mistake?

There are 2 beeps that I know of....

1. The clock at X:59 will ding, if you have it set... AND

2. The temperature warning.. at 3C, or whatever it is in F just before freezing, your friendly BMW will tell you that you should watch for ice on the road.

So the next time you hear it... if there is a little snowflake on your display or the temperature to be near freezing.. Thats it.

Hope that's it! though I'm sure you like the stud explanation better

Thanks everyone for your help. I found out that is the clock at the top of the hour. This a great source.

Only dings (or chimes) once.

OP mentioned multiple beeps... none of the above would do that. Could it be something with your audio system? Or, maybe you are driving home in reverse and tailgating the car in front of you and it's the PDC...
