those specs don't tell you surface area. you can't just measure the outside surface area of the filter..
I guarantee a typical cone filter dropped into an E90 has less surface area. It's a simple matter of pleat depth x the number of pleats, and there are 5x as many in the stock filter. I don't have an aftermarket one or I'd measure it.
I also never disputed that a cotton material was less restrictive. but surface area still matters. people just assume a fancy looking cone filter flows better, even when it's obviously covered in about 2 years of grime. or those awful mushroom filters.

Brand new K&N cone filters flow better than brand new stock drop in paper filters, I think we all know this....Lets move on
