The car wash for leases?
Those of you who lease and know they will trade in or get something else, do you just roll you ride into the $5 car wash?
I would feel bad to get a cheap wash for a nice car but after all it is a lease. What's your take on this? |

I truly don't get the mentality of some leasers that abuse their car just because it's a lease, why???

HEELLLL NOO. My car(this is my first lease) looks better then most peoples cars that they own. If I don't handwash I only use laser washes at $10+ a wash. My car is showroom pristine 90% of the time.

I lease and use the full Zaino system. It's a matter of pride for one thing, but I may also buy this car at the end of the lease so I want to keep it looking like new.

Are you kidding? Take care of it. I feel happy for the next owner of my car... Frequent maintenance. Washed weekly. Driven right when the engine is warm...

Wow, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I just figured since the car is like an extended rental...No need to keep it so prestine. I mean don't get me wrong. I would use the car wash 2x a month maybe more if it's really dirty.
No one thinks the car wash is ok to use? |

The way I look at it from a man's POV. Your car is an extension of yourself...
It says alot about the person behind the wheel. (Granted there are exceptions) I meant the cleanliness part. |

You guys gotta be joking, no way would I spend as much time taking care of a car that I knew would be out of my hands in two years versus one that I planned on keeping or reselling.
Sorry, but I'm not going to spend 5 hours a week claying/zaino-ing a rental car. Don't kid yourselves; a lease is a rental car. Now if you wanted to wash it yourself to get the best possible shine out of it, then that's up to you. Sending a car through a touch-less car wash once in a while is not abuse, it's just not optimal (long term) treatment. The vast majority of other BMW owners probably won't even be that meticulous. There will obviously be a point where taking great care of the paint is worth it, but as it won't increase your "resale" I'm not sure 2 years hits that point. Do you spend as much time cleaning the gutters, mowing the lawn, and fixing little items on a rental property as your own house? Personally I not only want mine to look tip/top, but I plan on either keeping it or trading up in a few years. So I will be spending 5 hours a week with the zaino treatment. Old car sold me for life on Zaino, second owner, black paint, and as recent as last year people swore I had fresh paint on it. (98 year model) Last edited by DCJAX; 06-12-2007 at 04:30 PM.. |

This is still your car. Period. Lease and purchase are just 2 different words, nothing more. Most people here purchase their cars and then sell within 3-4 years. Same as lease, but you lose more money.

Some people take pride in what they drive, live in, etc., regardless of whether they own it or are leasing it. Then there are the people who live their lives in their own world, making choices without much regard for the rest of the world. Those are the people who beat the crap out of their lease when the engine is cold, drive it through a regular car wash, basically treat it with as much disrespect as possible.
I leased a quality vehicle I would treat it just the same as it I had bought it. Who knows, you may fall in love with the car and decide you want to buy it outright. You'd feel pretty stupid if you had treated it like shit when it was new...

Yeah I guess it won't hurt spending a few bucks for a touch less car wash. I may end up buying it. Well probably not since I would like to get the new M3 when the 335i lease expires.
