It could have mattered in '21

But not '22 or '23 unless that teammate happened to beat him. All the other driver's and cars were still too far behind. He just wouldn't have won the championship by as wide a margin.

Same for '24 so far but I get the point you are trying to make.

I also expect Nor to fall back to his usual unimpressive pace. He had the perfect storm of events - RB not at peak peformance all weekend, further reduced by damage, and a fee 25 second pit stop that allowed him to win - also just heard that RB had the engines detuned quite a bit in Mia which caused a loss of 3.5 tenths. I still think he's at best an average driver and don't foresee him winning a straight battle with Max but even more so don't see him winning again for quite some time as he's gotten quite cocky this past week.

It's okay to have that rare contrarian opinion even I'm willing to bet none of the F1 Principals will agree with you that Lando is an average driver

I do agree with you it was a lucky win in Miami but then I think Lando knew that as well.

Major upgrades by the teams and possibly rain equals a hopefully exciting race!

Ferrari have a new package for the race.

Joining the Rb/Mcl camp with over bite intakes but with a more Merc or Alpine shape.

Other changes to flow conditioning along the side pod and cooling. New floor to boot aswell.

This takes nothing from Max, still think he’s a generational talent and the best on the grid at the moment. But you can still only do what’s best with what you have.

I actually think if you put Max in the Ferrari and those driver in the RB, Max would have beaten all of them in the RB. The RB is what it is because of Max.
Beyond that, I actually don't think any of those drivers would have had nearly the success Max has had in the RB. None of them would have gotten close to 19 wins in a season - you'd maybe see half that if they were driving the car which really isnt impressive in the least. Max's agility and dynamism to drive whatever is thrown at him and still be fast is a trait he had those others dont. He also handles pressure unlike any of those others - his 10 and 9 win streak both saw crazy weather, red flags, safety cars, and he make it look easy.

Ham - not very quick unless the car is set up 100% the way he likes it, and does not qualify well when his car doesnt have 100 more hp than the rest, and is very prone to contact.

Rus - taking away the UK driver hype, not that good and has not proven he can finish a race under pressure.

Nor - again, simply not that good and IMO isnt as good as Pia (except that Pia needs to learn race/tire management a bit better)

Sai - he is really not that quick and would have trouble driving the RB18/19/20 just like Per has had trouble. They are very similar in driving style and he too would have a hard time with the dynamics of the car.

Lec - he would be the only one I think who would enjoy driving the car as much as Max but he is not consistent and make far too many mistakes and unforced errors.

He hasn't proven to be anything other than an average F1 driver to me and I do think his teammate is the better driver with more potential and better racing lines. He hasnt quite figured out the race and tire management yet but that will come in time.
Yes, Miami was luck in many aspects for him which really only solidifies my former statement. His quali was not very good (not to mention sprint quali and sprint were awful), and if not for circumstances would have never been in a position to win - he couldnt even pass Per in the race. Max by contrast had a bad weekend yet he still scored the most points and had sprint pole, sprint win, race pole, and led the race until the SC.

MAX, how was the free practice today ?
We struggled through the practice with the balance of the car .
Don't feel confortable in the car , the cars response is unpredictable !

What do you think for the qualifying ?
It can't get any worse than today !

I think the RB20 upgrades really s@ck !

Seems to me RB always starts the weekend with Max's car on a knifes edge, virtually out of control. Then slowly back it down to his liking. Max will be fine by qualifying and the race.

Even if Charlie could snatch poll I don't think Ferrari have the long run pace or top speed to hold Max off. That Ferrari engine just doesn't seem to have enough ponies.
