vtec was variable valve timing.
Originally 2 step (hence the 'kicks in' - you feel the switch over from low rpm appropriate timing to high rpm appropriate timing) Now I believe it's continuous. And I beleive the bmw style is also continuous. I thought VANOS was something different - like it got rid of the throttle and just used valves alone to control air intake. (correct me if I'm wrong... not like I looked into this stuff) -scheherazade |

i-VTEC was later added to many models which includes continous valriable valve timing. But the change in the lift still occurs as mentioned above. VANOS is a continuous control of the valve timing only. BMW's Valvetronic uses continuously variable valve lift, from abotu 1mm to about 10mm and anywhere in between. |

Not much to add except that there is no Valvetronic on the N54. It is on the N52 though and it will be in the N55.
All have double VANOS.

Yep, Run 5 was before I designed and made the Liquid/Air IC. Run 27 was with the IC but through the stock exhaust. Run 29 had the exhaust cutout open. Pretty predictable power curve and semi-useful with the short gearing the 6MT had. Unfortunately it was tied to the wrong end of the car and chassis.
If only Honda/Acura would make a proper RWD vehicle (with more seats than the S2000) as they can make a fine engine and manual tarnsmission. |
