Interesting! I will probably order those LRN13754 from your original link then. Thanks, that's a lot of savings compared to the ZF LifeGuardFluid6!!!!

That's probably why places like RMEuropean say it is an equivalent for the Shell/LG6 stuff, because the guys in Pentosin NJ say so, even though the guys in Germany say something different.
Edit: and Socom, there is no difference between Shell M-1375.4 and Lifeguardfluid6. Per the email I received from ZF, its the same thing "The ZF Lifeguardfluid6 is developed together with Shell and blended by Shell Hamburg. The Shell internal code name for this fluid is M-1375.4. This specialy developed fluid formulation will only be manufactured by ZF Service as ZF Lifguardfluid6 or via oil no. of the car manufacturers mentioned in the enclosed ZF list of lubricants TE-ML 11. No other oil manufacturer can sell this special fluid formulation therefor no legitimate substitute can be on the market." |

For those doing a drain-and-fill (not changing the oil pan/filter), do you think it's a good idea to get a small piece of magnet, tie it at the end of a hangar, and stick it into the drain hole to get as much metal flakes as possible? I saw this guy doing the complete ATF overhaul (changing the oil pan) and it looks like too much work.

You can do the magnet thing if you want, but the whole pan does have to be changed out after a while. Last edited by Turkeybaster115; 03-16-2010 at 10:28 AM.. |

Warranty: 6HP (Lifeguard6 or OEM only)*. *Lifeguard5 and Pento ATF1 can officially be used for the ZF 5HP application. This is confirmed by Pentosin Germany publications eventhough US Distributors continue to sell Pento ATF1 with 6HP on bottle. Pentonsin ATF1 is a class 11B lubricant and does not appear anywhere in the 6HP. If you have tranny problems and have changed the fluid do NOT provide bottles of Pentosin ATF1 as proof of using the correct fluid. Outside Warranty: Shell M-1375.4 equilivant for the ZF 6HP. (Castrol, Pento ATF1, etc, etc) Last edited by F32Fleet; 03-16-2010 at 02:16 PM.. |

or anything on TE ML 11, for that matter, with TE ML 11B lasting longer than TE ML 11A. You also don't have to wait for your warranty to expire to change the fluid. With what we've seen the fluid is deteriorated by 30K miles in any vehicle not driven by grandma. Last edited by Turkeybaster115; 03-16-2010 at 02:27 PM.. |

"Specifically, these transmissions are to be serviced according to ZF TE-ML 11. In TE-ML 11 are two categories of fluid, 11A and 11B. The 11B is a more robust, longer life fluid with similar properties to 11A." "In the world today, testing a Transmission Fluid for Operation and Longevity would be costly, and probably prohibitive." "Transmission Life is based on monitoring the condition of the fluid and replacing the fluid before the properties of the fluid starts to fail. Replace the Filter before it becomes restrictive. And fill the transmission with the best material possible." |

This is much cheaper than I expected!! ZF charges $30 each, and online Land Rover dealers charge $25 each. Is this too good to be true? |

Wow, that is an awesome price. Did you verify with them that this is indeed the Shell 1375.4 fluid for the ZF 6hp Auto trans?

I was quoted by a lady in the service department. I doubt she knows that much details. According to land rover docs, that is indeed shell M-1375.4 fluid, and furthermore, the part number of this oil is LRN13754 (which sounds similar to 1375.4). I'm gonna play it safe, and see if I can get a similar quote on the TYK500050 product instead (which is the oil used for ZF's 6HP as according to ZF).

Changing out ATF @ every 30k-40k miles w/Lifeguard 6 is good practice since there isn't conclusive proof that using any other fluid at that change interval will do any better. |
