So I am not the only one with this problem. Was thinking of taking my car into the dealership. I also have the noise at low speeds. Especially when I back up my car from my driveway. I also hear it when I go forward at low speed but then goes away when driving at normal speeds.

My story:
1) Brake squil at low speed after stop - Solution: After numerous appointments with my dealer, they said i need new pads, rotors, sensors. Canadian warranty does not cover brakes even though my fronts were 56% rears at 35%. BMW does not fix, they just wanted to replace and bill me $756 for rear brake service. I ended up ordering front and rear combo of Hawk Ceramics. Turned rotor to remove the grooves and installed new pads. Cost $200 pads $150 rotor machining. - Result no squil. 2) Squil came back when brakes get warm - Solution: Removed the pads and sanded with 80 grid sand paper. Rotors too. Reinstalled with application of sythetic marine greese on the back of the pads and two bolts that hold the caliper. Due to pretty big size of the rotors, I changed bedding to 5 stops at 30m/h, 5 stops at 50m/h, 5 stops at 65m/h. Result: Silent, dust free and front and back brakes done for $350!!! |

Thanks for the responses. My car is going into the stealership to get it looked at again tomorrow. I'm gonna make sure they hear the noise before I leave. I just want the noise to go away.

I have the same squealing at low speed issue. Brought it up to my dealer and they say its normal.. Its friggen annoying to hear and embarrassing to roll up in an expensive car w/ squeaky brakes.
Will try some of these fixes tho |

It seems to me that the dealers have no clue what is wrong and just replace everything to fix it. I work for a tier 2 supplier to many automotive customers as an engineer and it is very hard to believe the the engineers at BMW don't know what the problem is. Sucks that there is no real fix right now besides replacing everything. Though if you are still under warranty you can get some new brakes if you are persistent enough |

It's the pad wear sensor. You can test it by unplugging it from the caliper housing and going for a drive. If you look at the design of the sensor, it is always rubbing against the rotor. I had the same squealing problem as you and I noticed that my sensor was slightly loose. As such, at a particular speed it would resonate and squeal quite loudly. When I did my brake pads/rotors, I put in new sensors which were much stiffer when mounted. No squeal since.

The wear sensor is not the cause of squeal. I have been running with the senors not attached to the pads for a year and it still squeals. The squeal comes when leaving after a stop up to around 10-15 mph and only when the brakes are fully warmed up.
I think the noise is caused by the parking brake as a similar noise can be heard when I push down on the car with parking brake engaged. |

same issue, just got the car so its pretty disappointing to find that so many others are experiencing the same issues and there is no proven fix. I picked up some crc about 20 minutes ago to see if that would help but seeing as how i just got the car 2 days ago I am going to see if the dealership will do anything for me. Anyone else have any luck with the paste applied to the back of the pad?

So is this issue covered under CPO if its the sensor or the parking break?

I took mines in a couple weeks back, they replaced front and rear brake pads along with the sensors and been happy ever since. Its embarassing when you're driving a 30k+ car when a Honda rolls up to you w/o any noise or problems.

My front rotors and pads were the reason. Both needed to be replaced.

I too have this problem. My rear passenger brakes squeal accelerating from 0 to about 20mph. The sound is more prominent making left turns.
My car: 2008 E92 28k miles. I have found the following threads on E90post about others with this exact same problem: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ghlight=squeal http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48702 I took my car to the dealership since it is still under warranty, and of course their technician was not able to reproduce it. I blatantly told my SA that I knew BMW was well aware of the issue, and then she came clean, stating that my brake pads were still 8mm thick, and they were instructed that they can replace them when they get down to 7mm. Naturally I am not happy about this and am seriously considering contacting BMW corporate for a resolution, as this seems to be a major flaw in the design, IMO.
