Spoiler taping issue
The spoiler feels a little loose, and I am concerned about it flying off on the 405 freeway and killing some motorcyclist. Will the spoiler "stick" more firmly overtime, or did I botch this first attempt when I pulled it off to re-align?

The tape usually takes around 5 minutes to fully seat. 3M double sided tape is very susceptible to picking up particles and not sticking well the second time. The spoiler should be extremely sturdy when mounted correctly.

Check it out, this is what I have been doing for a while now and works great.
1. put tape on spoiler and clean trunk surface w/ alcohol 2. peel just the first inch of the red plastic off (as seen in pic) and fold to the side. 3. place spoiler on trunk and put in position - at this point the only sticky part is just an inch on the one end so it makes it easy to put in position and lift up if you mess up. 4. once in position, put pressure on spoiler and grab red plastic and start pulling off This way the second the red plastic comes off it immediately adheres to the trunk of your car. I use this method for everything 3m and works killer

Yeah, you should re-do it with new tape. Here's how I did it.

New tape is best, but 3M makes an adhesion promoter that is used with their tape. It is a sponge like wipe. I use it when reapplying fender mouldings. It reactivates the glue. Just make sure you wear gloves because it is glue. Nothing really takes it off skin, so all the dirt is glued to your hands for a few days.
Open packet, wipe glue area of tape, position and hold for 30sec, done. It only works if the glue area of tape isn't damaged or missing. |
