E93 convertible top not coming down
Hey guys,
I just got a convertible. Put the top up and down 10 times and it worked perfectly fine. Today I tried putting it down and and the top won't move at all. No sounds at all either of the motor straining or anything. I get the red blinking light on the control switch but no message on the idrive screen of any problems. The windows do not go down either, however all the window control switches work. I also made sure the trunk was closed, and the partition was down. What the heck is wrong with the car? Trying to figure it out. Any ideas? Thanks! |

Well it was -20 celsius outside today and the car was washed. However, the car is sitting in a garage thats about 10 degrees. It's been sitting there for 4 hours. You think there's ice still present?

Did you put anything at all in the trunk before it stopped working? I once put the car's manual at the back on the side of the trunk thinking it was a safe place but it blocked the roof going down.
PS: Your username is making me hungry

Yes my trunk was filled like crazy and I removed stuff until it was basically empty. But it still wouldn't go down. There's absolutely nothing on the sides of the trunk on either side of the partition.
Also, a quick steam cleaning was done in the trunk this morning, but I tested the convertible top a few hours after that was completed and it worked. Only after I got home later in the evening did it not go down. I'm not getting an error message of any kind and one of the red lights blink when I hold the convertible top switch. |

If its too cold it won't go down. Don't remember the setting but it was lower than you would think. I think it was 17 degrees, probably Farenheight.

check the trunk. If you have anything i mean anything on the two shelves on the left and right the roof wont go down. Something as small as a penny will prevent it from moving. Also make sure the shelf thing is locked in place.

As long as the shelf is Down it should work. I've had stuff on the sides and was able to put the top down many times. I've had tools, an amp and trim pried there while doing suspension installs and let the trunk reverse open with stuff on the 2 sides I never had Idrive but if the shelf is up would you normally get an error message saying to put it down? If not the it sounds like the car isn't seeing that it is down due to a sensor failure |

From the owners manual
The retractable hardtop cannot be moved at temperatures below +14F/–10C

It begs the question of who the hell would want the top down at -10C!

Many things in these cars have temperature thresholds. The power rear shade in mine, for instance, can't be operated if it's too cold, too. I think they must do this to protect the mechanical parts from potential failure.

do any of you know how to deactivate / not allow for the top to come down (besides not putting down the actuator in the trunk AND can be reversed after when you want to..)
Thank you in advance!

Deano83 01:03 PM Today Hi All who can help, Re- roof not opening due to boot tray space. I have replaced my amp in the boot due to water damage in trunk, in the process I have had to remove both rear (corner) boot panels to drain water all the while breaking clips (as you do) since I haven’t been able to get my sunroof open. When I try to open the sunroof the Idrive displays “roof won’t open due to tray space in boot” although it all looks together and in place with no clear instruction. Could someone please confirm whether I have to have clips in all allocated areas? Are there sensors here that these need to be in place. Can anyone help me understand where the sensors are and what checks to do regarding the boot so I can be sure I have done all correctly. Kindest regards Dean. I assume you have a convert which doesn't have a sun roof it has a convert roof. Last edited by ctuna; 04-10-2020 at 07:44 PM.. |
