Ok so two weekends ago I had my first major cleaning session with my E90, after 6 months of just shampooing and rinsing I thought its best treat the bodywork.

I stupidily forgot to take images to share.. but I'll brief my process.....

Started with a rinse (of course), two bucket shampoo with AG shampoo.
I wasnt required to de tar or clay it seemed so I got started on applying a coat of Poorboys Black hole, followed by Collinite 472, both applied using a damp applicator and wiped with mircofibre once hazed. AG vinyl and rubber care to tyres and I was chuffed with the result.

Since this fateful weekend however I have been experiencing a lot of noise in the cabin whislt driving, more accurately creaking noise... seems to come from door seals and the roof rail thingys that you would remove for the rack - anyone else exerienced this? Guessing the wax/glaze may have dried the rubber out? Though the door seal rubbers do seem to be backed with some kind of flock so its difficult to understand where the creaking is coming from there. I hear of simsilar stories on other forums and '1z einszett Gummi Pflege' was mentioned as a possible resolution - anyone used this before? ~£10 for something that might help....might be worth a punt, but might it just go away after a full wash?

There is a long thread on this. Basically it seems to happen when you get wax on the Velcro like vertical seal at the top of the door. Try just washing it with car shampoo to remove the wax and if this does not work then try Gummi Pflege. The most important thing to note is that it is not the rubber door seals making the noise so dont waste your time on them..

Funny you should mention this as I dropped my e90 to the dealers this morning to get this very issue sorted.
Mine first went about a year ago while the car was under warranty, the noise used to drive me absolutely insane, the dealer dicked me about for a while telling me I had used the wrong cleaning agents and I should have used yaks milk or something. Anyway I wrote a very strong letter to BMW UK and needless to say within a day or two the dealer was on the phone and the rubbers were replaced under warranty.
The exact same noise is back and I have been told the same BS from the dealer, however they have said that they will try and get BMW to do it as a ‘goodwill gesture’ – I have told them that I am not expecting to pay for this – I categorically wont pay for this.
Its funny, the service guy I met with today advised that this is a very rare issue with these cars – I may point him in the direction of this site as there has been plenty of other people who have experienced this same problem.
Is your car under warranty still ? If so you should consider having it looked at by the dealer.
A word of advice, do not use any lubricants to solve this problem, things like silicone grease are a total no no

Strange that this should happen, I dont recall getting wax on the door or the highline trim.

I am under warranty, may call this in but seeing how I kind of caused it by waxing the car I should try and correct it.

Further investigation I find:

BMW has discontinued Gummi-Pflege, so the only ones available is what the dealers still have in stock.

The reason is it contains silicone, which is bad

Good news is it has been replaced by a product called Carboflo which is teflon based, but double the price. Apparently works much better and not as messy

I'm surprised that all dealers aren't aware (some are) that the problem isn't the door seals, in most cases of creaking and groaning. Of course there will be exceptions, but the cleaning agent problem has been known for years, and replacement seals can creak in days or weeks, if the same cleaning methods and products are used.

Never fails to amaze me in the 100+ years of motor vehicle history, manufacturers can't make a bloody door and seal that doesn't creak. It's pathetic.

Can i ask you guys what wax u use which seems to be causing the prob?

Well the one I used was some nasty all in one spray wax but did contain carnuba amongst other things. Usually the spray waxes also contain some sort of distillate so it stays liquid, easy to apply and remove.

But I can remember having this problem with my Audi which had a very similar door/window frame design and at that point I will have been using Meguiars stuff.

Reviewing what I had applied in terms of wax I'm now thinking it wasnt the wax more so AutoGylm glass cleaner with the creaking coming from around the windows, either way I dont have the issue and I'm sane again.

I agree - having spent ages trying to track down the 'creak' thinking it was the door seals, I have traced it to the track in which the windows sit. Wash the car and while the 'flock' is wet the noise is gone. As soon as it dries out, it's back.

I thought I had cured it with Einzett Gummi Pflege, but now I'm not so sure. I'm still in warrant, so may book it in to the dealer when I can spare the time.

If I recall the Gummi stuff is water based. Could be wrong. Anyhoo, as previously mentioned, the BMW lubricant is the one to use. Well it did the trick on mine.

Glad you got that sorted! Oh wow, I did not know that glass cleaner or wax etc would cause creaking like that. I just cant stand creaking in the car....really makes you go insane!!

Feel like I'm going the dealers every month spend my hard earned lol

Just give all the apertures and seals a good wash with fairy liquid in water

This seems to remove any waxy contaminants - mine is just starting to creak again but not done it for about 12 months now. It is a royal pain in the ass and never had a car do this before.

My dealer basically said I clean the car too well!! I used to finish the wash process with a detailer spray to remove any streaks etc and would often open the door and wipe inside the shuts using the same microfibre cloth - this caused my initial problem!

I can do better than that. The part number is 83 19 9 408 523. It sits in the drawer next to me at work. If you get some apply it sparingly with the foam adaptor to the felt bits and follow on with a bit of towel or something so it doesn't drip.
