I have the reversing judder on my 57reg 320d. Glad I've seen this, trouble is I only have an aftermarket RAC warranty having just bought the car from a Volvo dealership. Hmmmm.

I removed the CDV this morning, well removed the grommet inside it that restricts the flow of the fluid and makes the clutch feel so heavy.

This has transformed the car to be honest, yeah the judder is still there slightly, however because you are in control of the clutch you can sort of get round the judder, in fact I only got it once coming home pulling out of a junction up a pretty steep hill.

Problem I had was the delay in the clutch rising was enticing the judder, where as now it seems it comes up at a speed that doesn't give the clutch time to judder.

However, maybe mine is just not bad enough..........yet!

Why BMW still insist on this stupid delay valve is beyond me, it is obviously causing far more grief for them than it is without it.

I am not saying the CDV causes the judder, I am saying that it doesn't help you avoid it.

Well I phoned the dealer this morning to express the fact that I believe this judder to be a widely excepted problem and also that BMW have announced a new fix is on the horizon.

The Service Manager did not go so far as to confirm the problem was widespread but did confirm that 'yes' there is a modified part now available to order but that a Technician would need to check the car first and they can't just fit it. Perfectly understandable.

My only question is how come they are saying this new part is available to order now but Rich's dealer seemed to say its not out for a couple of months?

Anyone got a friendly contact in the trade that can see if this new part has a Service Bulletin reference etc. so I can confirm we are talking about the same fix when I drop it off?

No, my dealer told me they could express an interest/order the part now for possible delivery and fitment end of the month.

It was someone else who'd been told December http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...02&postcount=3

Another one to report in on this judder fault - everytime I'm in Glasgow city centre and heading up the streets crossing St Vincent Street it judders like a learner driver. A large dose of right foot helps out but it's not very elegant!

Watching this with interest as trying to do the same thing in winter with snow/ice on the ground and having to welly the revs would be pretty hairy when setting off.

Apologies Rich, my bad, so possibly is one in the same fix then given the timescales. Fingers crossed

Yep I was told not available to order yet as its under testing. Think there is a lot of mixed info given my the dealers at the moment.

However, be careful and ensure you are not getting the modified clutch that was released in September 2011. I have this clutch at the moment and it still judders.

Christ, that complicates matters. I think a chat with the dealer is in order.

Right, so it's probably this Sept 2011 part they were likely referring to then. I suppose I can let them have the car, diagnose the problem and then negotiate where they go from there. I would have thought if there's a new part on the horizon BMW would halt orders on dealers fitting the previous one if it wasn't curing the problem?

I suppose if they fit it and it still does it I can go back, thing is I just don't want my car pulling apart over and over again.

Ok, I've contacted a friend of mine who works for BMW, sales not service mind, he's going to see what he can find out from his Service Manager and let me know. Said something about if theres a new fix for something it's normally sent out on their Puma system?

I'll post up any news

Have a 330d - now done 14,000 miles and am on my third clutch, last one done 3 weeks ago.

To be honest quite poor service from Rybrook in Warwick (this is the second time in with them for this, first at 8,000 miles in April and now at 14k) Had the car 2 days - no loan car at all, and pretty poor detail about what was happening/what they did. Less than 400 miles later - and it back to where it was. Lots of reverse shake - oh and now gained a rattle somewhere under the transmission tunnel. . . ) Come on BMW - you have built thousands of these critters - what ARE you playing at. My wifes golf with 80k on is better than this . . .

A bit of an update from my friend in the trade. He sat down with his Service Manager yesterday and spent some time going through cases on BMW's 'Puma' system. There have been several fixes recommended for clutch judder and there is a recent new part available but there is no mention of any other fixes due to superceed that in the future.

They did say that future fixes are not normally broadcast on Puma as such but that is not to say that an individual dealer hasn't been given the heads up of something else on the horizon if they have had an ongoing issue with a specific vehicle.

The advice to me, which I do take in good faith, was get my car in to be checked and allow the dealer to follow the latest advice from BMW. If for any reason this fails to fix the judder then take it back again. I was told that under no circumstances should the car be doing this, it is not a character trait of the car and it obviously has a problem which needs sorting.

With this in mind I dropped my car in this morning. So far I've had an excellent service from the dealer, warm welcome, professional and courteous with a nice new courtesy car awaiting my arrival.

They called me at midday to say the car was going into the workshop then again at about three o'clock to say that 'yes' they've replicated the judder and have created a 'Puma' case for my car. They expect to hear back from BMW authorising repairs in the morning and will let me know as soon as they hear back. When they do I'll ask specifically what they are proposing to fit and put another update on.

So far, so good. If they manage to fix the car as well it will be an A++ experience!

Update:

Call from dealer to say BMW have authorised a new clutch to be fitted. Confirmed that this is just a clutch, not flywheel etc. but it is a new revised unit being sent from Germany. Going to have to book the car back in but very happy with the dealers service so far. Providing I get the car back in the same condition I left it it will have been a pleasant experience!

On a side note they've repaired my iDrive menu button which broke a few weeks ago

Well I called my dealer again and they contacted BMW UK again for me and they've confirmed that the new revised clutch is still not in production and won't be available until December :S

There is now a waiting list for the part and I'm now in there so will have to wait 'til then.

I wonder if there is a different fix for different manufactering year vehicles. Mine is a 2010 320D E92 Coupe.

It would be good if they were able to provide a part number or some sort of reference number for whatever this new part is. It does sound a bit strange that it is something due to go into production in December rather than available from. Who knows? I've not heard back about mine yet anyway.

They told me they have no further details apart from it due to being released in the market on December 2011. Yeah guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. My dealer has said they'll call as soon as they here when in December they can get the part so that the car can be booked in.

Will update as soon as I here any more.

What if you get the judder on petrol car, only when its cold, or you pull off from ascending road?
Any thoughts?

So reading form the posts, it is clutch and not flywheel.
Also there is no part number available till date....

Has anybody sorted it yet?

Cheers.
