I'm a little confused, but do you leave the factory DVs out? You should do another sound clip but move the camera so the BOV sound is more prevalent

Please see the original pictures. The factory DV's are completely removed. Also, I no longer have the BOV or the car. Im sure if you youtube search for the TIAL on 355 youll find plenty of clips.

just got done installing my AA bov and wanted to add one thing:
the vacuum line might be different depending on the year of the car (im not too sure), in my case (2009 e92 335i) the vacuum line going to the factory dv is only one that splits in two forming a "y" shaped fitting with one line that goes to the engine and the other two go to each of the dv. when you install the bov you are left with only one vacuum line (provided with the bov kit) that runs directly from the engine to the bov. in this DIY is different because the vacuum line runs from the engine to a "t" shaped fitting which splits one line to somewhere not pictured then to a "Y" shapped fitting then to the factory dv from there. this can be confusing for some as it was for me. thats all, great diy op. |

Yes, you're referring to the little brown rubber ring right? It goes in between the bov and the flange, keeps an air tight seal!

I used this DIY a while back too.. Good info.

Make sure both sides of the IC to pipe side are good and tight. VRSF doesn't include vacuum hose. You'll need 1/4" vacuum tube. Quote:
This is what I did, since I didn't want to risk breaking the nipple on the plastic manifold. |

Great DIY! Thank you.
A question - when you're pulling the intake air sensor, is it an issue if you just reconnect the whole thing on the new charge pipe in the engine bay, rather than outside? My clip was stuck something horrible so I just screwed it all off, taped it to a convenient hose and plugged it back in. I'm waiting on an Allen wrench to come over so I have time to ask if this is an issue. I *think* it only makes it more of a pain in the ass to screw in, right? Also, screw the c-clip to the BOV. 30 minutes to get that thing compressed and in, even with the $14 tool. For those with the VRSF kit like me, and who are wondering what to do about the piece of tubing you need - I just chopped off a hunk from the factory DV and used that from the BOV to vacuum regulator to the original vacuum tubing, after I pulled off the factory Y connector. Kind of ruins your factory DVs but if you're ok with that, might as well use the tubing. |

Nice write up, it was a bitch to get the charge pipe onto the lower fitting other than that not too bad.

FYI, you do NOT need to line up the hole in the bolt with the T vacuum fitting on top of the BOV. If you look inside the T fitting, there is a channel cut out that will allow air to flow around the bolt so it can get through the hole in the bolt.
Has anyone ran a separate line for their BOV vacuum? I feel like the tiny stock line is too small. It would be better to run 1/4" all the way to the intake. Mine isn't opening as well as it should, even with a 10psi spring. I get some flutter and delay in opening. Are there any other vacuum lines we can T into?

I just purchased a used Tial BOV. It didn't come with an O-ring that's used when connecting the BOV to the charge pipe. Does anyone know if that's necessary to be used?
Also, it came with some washer-type bolts (don't know what they're called). 5 of these "bolts" are marked "ASD" and 1 is marked "AKC". Does anyone know if these have to be used anywhere? I'm not sure what to do with them. |

Yes, you need the o-ring. I'm sure they sell spares. You could probably get away with RTV, but that's a last resort.
Not sure about the bolts. You have a pic?

When you move the MAF sensor from the factory chargepipe to your aftermarket chargepipe, you might want to make sure to use the screws that come with the new chargepipe - especially if you bought the VRSF kit.
Otherwise you end up with the factory bolts sheered off halfway into your chargepipe and a duct-tape secured MAF sensor until you can get the bolts drilled out. Just sayin'.
