It's really no stress, I just call ATS they book a time I drive there, pop next door for a coffee and 30 Mins done and £40...plus my summers are stored all winter, unless you've deep pockets and plenty of space I can't see how buying a another car is less hassle?

Just because it's 4wd doesn't mean it works in the snow!

I had a call to rescue to my friend last year who was stuck on a gentle incline in less than a foot of snow in his range rover sport! Which funnily enough was in 'snow mode'

It's the tyres not the car!

My Impreza on summers was gash in the snow.My BMW on winters has been fantastic over the past few years.
Set of decent winters has got to be the cheaper option!

I use Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme and whilst I have to be careful with the throttle the only time they're scary at all is when it's very wet and warm (like here 9 degrees and very wet roads this morning, they were a bit "fun").

If you're brave: Hit the DCT button once and then enjoy the progressive slides everywhere you go

We overtook a Q7 slliping and sliding near the A40 in London a couple of years ago after about 6" of sudden snowfall.

The driver clearly thought 4wd was foolproof and found out it wasn't ! My wife was driving my 3 series on winters for the first time and just drove past them wheelspinning on the up ramp to the A40

Tried that this morning on the way in to work I think that might be the best way to wear these things down a bit...

I'm about to take the plunge on Winter tyres for the first time in the UK....

Seen these on Ebay...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190797164106
Debating whether to get these or splash out on the 17" Alloy version

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170988799095

Decisions.... Is there much difference driving on 16" wheels as opposed to 17"...

there shouldnt be any extra noise and there should be no issues with traction unless its just in the first < 100 miles to get them working properly and remove the release agent once that is gone you should have more grip.

I know what should happen. What I'm saying is that these tyres don't provide that.

Having said that though, I had to go out very early yesterday morning and there was a good, hard frost, -4 deg on the car thermometer. I was pushing the car fairly hard on some nice empty B roads, and it didn't put a foot wrong.

From memory, last winter wasn't actually very cold. I wonder if these tyres just don't some into their own until the temperature is much lower than the suggested 7 degrees.

I'll see how they get on.

I think I saw a test that said they were only significantly better in the cold than summer tyres when the temperature went to zero or below. The 7c is a guide when they equal summer tyres 'ish .

Mine are still sitting in the garage at the moment.

So far mine have been fine no real increase in road noise, grip is good does tend to understeer around a constant radius bend, but under power and a slight kink in the road and then there is the tendency to oversteer. However I think with the weather we've had I'd have preferred to keep the summer wheels on that bit longer.

Makes him feel better, I expect

Dave: He recently got on his high horse for my "anti social and careless driving". If you can be bothered lol, you can read the two threads for yourself and decide if they are as serious as Paul likes to think. In his eyes i have 6 points for previously killing people with my dangerous driving, and then sped past a police car during a drug deal or something.

Anyways this thread proves he is a hypocrite, which a few fellow members even labelled him as, in those threads.

Paul: Get your facts straight bitch. The police car incident, which was NOT EVEN AN INCIDENT as i didn't get stopped, and was at 45 mph. Oooo that is deadly isn't it Paul. You must be fucking shitting yourself daily if that's the case LOL. That was in SEPTEMBER, and the S59 was after in October. And yes, you're fucking right it makes me feel better, after you calling me out when i have done no better or worse than anyone else on here!!
