DPs: AA installed for $750 or VRSF installed myself...
Hey E9XPost,
A local BMW indy-shop is offering to install AA (active autowerks) downpipes for $750. Should i go with this, or should i try to install VRSF downpipes myself? I dont have a lift/stands, but a friend could lend me his and help me out. The shop quoted installing the VRSFs for $280 (labor only), in effect making the AAs a better choice if they install it. 1) AA-dps installed for $750, or 2) Install VRSF dp's myself for $330 Ive never worked on car's before, other than changing out the spark-plugs myself, Procede, and AEs. Are DPs hard to install when the car is on stands, or should i go ahead with the shop offering the AAs? Thanks Eric

$750 seems high... I know the guy who did my install so I got a great deal but my install was still marginally less than that. I had xi DP's (subframe needs to be dropped), TMS brake kit (fluid, SS lines, pads, rotors), and 7" VRSF FMIC installed and it was cheaper than $750.
Edit: Just realized $750 was including the AA downpipes. In that case it's a good deal imo

It really comes down to if you're up for a large challenge or not, if you have the will power to possibly take 6 hours or more to do the job, then by all means go ahead, but if you're not sure if you're comfortable doing it, I would definitely have a shop do it

$750 for the DPs and installation? I'd definitely go that route.

If i ordered VRSFs DPs, what else would i need? I have a 220-pc Craftsman metric/imperial set of tools, but im sure there is something odd that i need... Yes. The downpipes are $750 with free installation, technically lol

You'll be able to get it done. You have the right attitude. There are a couple of video's out there showing you how to do it. Watch the, and get comfortable. I have air tools and did it all with hand tools. Get one of your buddies, it will be fun.

If your ordering them new from VRSF you'll get everything you need. I just installed a set last week. I was surprised how easy it was. Once you pull the steering rack out of the way there is plenty of room. Just watch the video a couple times.

1+ i think $330 + 250 = $580 is worth it. I would try intercooler installs myself but DP are a pain on jacks and stands. It all depends on how comfortable you are with mech DIY's. good luck and have fun : )

AA DPs are priced for $700 off AA's website. So you're basically getting charged $50 for the labor.
= COMPLETE STEAL PS - It's not a surprise they push AA products (tune, dps, prob fmic + other parts). They're probably an Active vendor, esp. since they're both in FL |

If you're not too comfortable installing themselves, you could always just go for the VRSF DP's + install and you'll be int he $520 - $550 range
Most shops will only charge between $200-$250 to install a set of DP's. |
