Bluetooth module replacement / odd speaker noise
-----------------------------------------------------
EDIT: I have solved my issue and am posting this for future searches. See below post. ------------------------------------------------------- Driving today I randomly get a Bluetooth error message symbol on my dash. I park a few mins later and I heard a weird popping/crackling sound coming from my speakers even though the car is off and keys off. 1) how “easy” is it to replace the Bluetooth module in the e90? Does the car need coded or can this just swapped out? 2) would the Bluetooth module going bad Chad the speaker noise? I searched and someone else had this. Lose but it was due to their satellite radio module going bad… which I think mine might be going out… I don’t have xm in my e99 but had a free trial a year or so and the sat radio constantly would stop working and make odd noises too. …. If this is the case… any help or links to replace the Bluetooth module please! I have professional BMW headunit without idrive. If I need to code it what would I need to big to do that? If I completely unplugged the Bluetooth and satellite radio modules and just left them that way… would that chase any issues? I don’t care about satellite… I use Bluetooth but could make do without depending how expensive it is to replace/fix

Thank you! I’ll start looking through this info… I have a 2008 328i professional… and I’m pretty positive it’s “premium” system , or the mid-level, no I drive My car no longer has the Bluetooth symbol on my non-I drive dash, and my phone is no longer connected. I get the weird symbol that looks like a crossed out phone which is the Bluetooth error. My satellite radio, when I had a free trail, would cut in and out end would just completely stop working. I chalked that up to a free trial end not the paid service at the time… so now I realize that unit isn’t working correctly either. I’ve seen the sat/Bluetooth modules can get corroded over time to cause these issues. I do not care about sat radio or any errors associated with it. I would like Bluetooth back, but this is a lot of work for an old car. I may just remove the Bluetooth module or jump it. I don’t care about dash errors for this either, but would remove them if easy.

… has anyone completely remove the Bluetooth and do a “delete?
These seems more effort than I want to deal with, unless I can find someone locally that can code my car for a new unit.

Replacing the BT module is easy (and cheap). Not sure if that’s your issue though. Do you still have audio?
I have my old bluetooth module which I’d be happy to sell you, and depending on your options you may even be able to bypass the old bluetooth module and use another module installed in your car to replace the old one - essentially replacing the old module for free. Do you have a USB port in the center console, and can you stream BT audio? Is your car equipped with Logic 7 or Harman/Kardon? |

Pretty sure it’s my BT module. I have music audio (radio/cd/aux) and works fine. However no SOS, and get an error for that at startup. Pretty sure that is related to the BT not working. I have a pre LCI so no streaming audio from BT only phone. I do have center console usb, which when hooked up to my phone plays music audio fine. No HK sound in my e90 |

With 6FL (usb audio) there's a module called the MULF2. This handles USB audio and BT in cars without BMW Assist. You have the premium package, so you also have a telematics module known as the TCU for BMW Assist. This module goes bad (mine did) and causes the issues you're experiencing. In an '08, your fix would be to plug in the Bluetooth antenna currently plugged into the TCU into the MULF (same blue connector), and unplug and loop out the TCU. You would then code out the TCU (remove BMW Assist from the VO and code the KOMBI) and then activate Bluetooth in the MULF via coding as well (default coding would take care of this). That's the short of it. Only cost would be a MOST ring loop and a k+DCAN cable if you don't have one (and a Windows PC if you're a Mac guy like me). |

Do you think you can post pictures or links to what I am looking for when you get a chance? I am NOT an electrical guy at all, so I understand the concepts of what you are saying but not sure what I would actually need to do - not sure which wires/plugs I am looking for, or how I would 'ring loop' I have zero coding knowledge/skills... I do have a windows PC, but apple phones/ipads if that makes a difference on software preferences .

I have solved my problem and this post is for other and future searches:
E90 without premium hi-fi sound sytem (non-logic 7) and no idrive, only AUX input and no usb-input in the center console. Issue: I had satellite radio issues with it cutting in and out. A few months later, my Bluetooth phone audio failed, which causes the SOS/BMW Assist error, and was also causing a crackling/static noise coming from my speakers. My radio, CD, and AUX in, door chimes all still worked. For all other E90s with logic 7, the common failure is complete sound lose which is caused by MOST system failure and/or a bad module – satellite radio, TCU, or MULF/MULF2 When originally searching these are the results that come up the most - CONFIRM YOUR sounds system as they are wired differently, I didn't know that. However, in my E90 with only the hi-fi system, the sound amp works independent of the MOST system.... which is why I still had radio, CD, door chimes, etc… but not satellite radio or Bluetooth phone. The satellite radio and Bluetooth (TCU) is still controlled by the MOST system in my hi-fi E90 Since I still had sound, but no Bluetooth or sat, that tells me my Amp Is still working good, but that either my satellite radio or TCU was bad. Solution: I bought a bypass loop off amazon and found that my sat radio module was bad, and that my TCU module was still good and working. I bypassed the sat module, which I don’t use anyway, and now everything is bad to working as it should be. If my TCU was bad, I could bypass the TCU as well. Replacement or upgrade of the TCU or to a MULF unit requires coding with NCS Expert The MOST connection for the TCU and Sat radio are different – you need to either disassemble the plug connection to insert it into the sat radio MOST connection, or find a universal “no trim” plug. Some people have cut or trimmed their MOST loops which is NOT needed – you can take this universal plug connections apart OR find a compatible loop. No need to trim. Hopefully this post helps someone in the future with similar issues.
