Ongoing engine problem.

Ok, here are my symptoms.

When car is between 1500-3000 rpms it gets a random misfire and hesitation, almost like something is grabbing the car and pulling back on it.

It never happens under hard acceleration from any speed only under low acceleration or just a constant speed.

What ive replaced:
All spark plugs
All coil packs
3 fuel injectors
Valve cover gasket
Vanos Solenoids (Both brand new)

Also did:
Intake valve cleaning

I have no idea what it could be so ive uploaded a JB4 recording

I keep trying to get a more stable recording but my JB4 wont record half the time. Just puts out a 1k file with nothing in it.

Which cylinder is missing? And which bank of injectors did you replace? I assume you coded them in?

That would make me suspicios of the jb4, have you tried disconnecting it completely? If yes, without looking at your log (on my phone) I would guess you have a timing issue.

Yeah, OP definitely double check all of the JB4 connections are correct, and not loose.

Sounds like the JB4 is acting up. Remove or re-install and see if that helps

What about taking off that shit piggback unit and selling the car, and buying a M3 (or better yet, 328i)

Try those steps.
Good advice!

It is obvious from reading e90 post for some time now that there is one person who basically starts the debate and everyone else gets hooked in. I know I havent, in seriousness, put down anyones choice of car--this is a car enthusiast forum not a place to call someone's car a pos.
that's why I decided to engage axiom..but he still does not get it.

OP never reported back with what he tried and if it got fixed. So I doubt it would help anyone anyway.

Its only been two days since OP started the thread......

OP, I have been having very similar symptoms with my car since day one. Bought it used with 23K miles. I notice mine most around 40 to 60 mph and when accelerating lightly. I have never had any codes com up on my COBB AP either. I even left it with the dealer for a few days and the best they could come up with was updating the DME, which was worthless and cost my $45 to reset my AP.

I am interested to see if you come up with anything on this one.

Had a busy week, I'll try re seating the Jb4 tomorrow, and if it persists il take it out and run without it and see.

You are running a cobb though, what all have you tried so far?

Can you record while driving with a cobb?

Yes the cobb will let you run a data log with selected parameters.

I have been trying to perfect a protune with the guys at PTF, and after iteration 13, we decided after seeing IAT's of around 180*F+ with the 90* days here in Florida, it would be best for me to go ahead and revert back to an OTS map until I get an aftermarket FMIC installed to get the IAT's down and not cause any harm to the engine.

However, I am very concerned that we haven't had a tune that doesn't go into limp mode or drive properly. Dzenno said that they usually go through about 2-5 iterations for a protune before they are happy, and it is rare that an N55 takes as long as mine does to get tuned. I am not down-talking the guys at PTF at all, they have been very responsive and put in a lot of effort to get my tune tightened up, but there is still something we are missing I guess. We were even having the car go into limp mode when using the resume feature on the cruise control from like 20mph to 70mph, which in D mode is very mild acceleration.

Nevertheless, the "hesitation" I feel is still present, like I said without any codes. I did read somewhere though that it could be timing corrections? I am hoping that it is something that PTF can identify and "tune out" of my car, but I am concerned that it may be a major component on its way out and the ECU just isn't picking it up with the codes.

I would just remove the JB4.

Take it completely out of the equation.
