Oil Cooler Hose - Oil leak help.
Any idea why I keep getting this oil leak around the oil cooler lines after performing the oil filter housing gasket DIY?
I've replaced both oil cooler line o rings with brand new oem ones. Am I over tightening this bolt? |

Any luck on this? I replaced my ofhg and reused the 2 o-rings you mention as I didnt have new ones on hand. It started leaking so i relaced them with new ones from the dealer. Seems to still leak from those 2 o-rings. I tightened it pretty damn good. Any suggestions?
Thanks!! |

Looks like quite alot of corrosion in area. My guess is the bore and fitting grooves weren't cleaned well enough prior to assenbly I would clean bores and oring grooves on fittings, lube the orings before assembly and torque to specs.

After weeks & weeks, I figured it out. It ended up being this cap gasket, that is highlighted in yellow, causing the leak. I removed the 2 screws holding the cap and put silicone gasket maker and it hasn't leaked since. |

twosickz Thanks! I will check that out! I was going to put some black RTV gasket maker on the 2 oil cooler connections as well. It wouldn't hurt to put it on all 3 spots would it?

Don't put any gasket maker in the o ring connections. Just the cap and very little aswell. |

No gasket replacement. No thermostat replacement either. Silicone would be only option.

This is going to become a much much more important thing to know as these incredible motors get into their truly appreciated years!
I've been chasing this leak all year. I see aftermarket a $50 replacement with seal for the thermostat cover. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I replace the OFH gaskets twice, and just replaced o-rings a second time. This is the only other possible place and it sure does it in a very hidden way. Grrr. It's a real real shame there isn't a $10 gasket that can be purchased to replace this!

FTP has a thermostat cover kit for $45 on ECS Tuning. Comes with the cover, new bolts, and a new gasket.

What is the correct torque on the 13mm bolt holding the H plate and oil cooler lines in place?? I looked all over and cannot find the proper torque.
I just got don't replace the OFHG and see the same little oil residue leaking as in the picture above. |

The oil lines will leak right there even with new O-rings because the plate that holds them down bends (like in the picture if you look closely). It can be heated and bent back, replaced for $180 each line, or converted to 10AN (this is the option I went with)

I replaced the O rings again this morning. I noticed it’s leaking from damn cover and not the cooler lines.
Guess I’ll get the placement kit from ECS. |

EconIsLyfe, thank you! Seems like the best option on this (I hate doing a job more than once) can you give a quick step by step on the conversion for us, I found some 10an fittings, would you have a parts list?

I think I have this problem. What is the adapter plate you used for the oil lines? Can you use the adapter with the stock oil lines?

Hello, I had an oil leak on the oil lines similar to the OP. I ended up swapping the o-ring for the thermostat cover on the oil filter housing and this solved my issue as well. Purchase an o-ring with the same measurements previously listed on this post and it should work. Where the oil ends up pooling leads you to believe that the o-rings for the oil lines themselves are the culprits, but in fact they're not the issue (in my case). This leak was frustrating to fix. Thank goodness for this post. I have an N55 engine on an F32 and this fix still applies.

https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1550526 FCP sells a replacement part made by Elring that has the octagon shape, but reviews say it doesn't last. Probably the material. As I said three years on the Viton round o-ring and it's leak free. Edit: I just found the package and I have one left! Free if you want it, shoot me a PM with shipping info.
